If he read about it and stories from those who suffer from it he might be more understanding.

Could you have your therapist help explain things to him? Maybe he could sit in on one session so he could better understand.
start taking your meds on a regular basis
If you admit to being bipolar then you should be taking your meds. Trust me on this one.the episodes will get progressively worse if you aren't taking meds. Therapy helps deal with the emotional ups and downs that you get but therapy doesn't slow bipolar down.
First of all, slap your husband and have him speak to a psychiatrist! And secondly, TAKE YOUR MEDS! Therapy will only do so much. I'm not bipolar but I have bad anxiety and depression and I go to counseling every week, but I still have to take my meds because when it comes down to it: It's a chemical imbalance. If you're body is producing too much or too little of something, it won't be cured just by talking, you need medication to regulate it.
i suffer from bi-polar, manic depression the heap, i take all that I'm given including lithium, which i have to be honest have been a life line to me over the past 5 yrs along with antidepressants, . give the drugs a try it cant do any harm, lithium is a drug that is not given out lightly, please see your dr and get help, its an awful feeling to have this "thing" you need to be careful that you don't start to self harm, its all part and parcel of bi-polar, the very best of luck my love and let me know how you get on, i hate to hear of any one suffering when the help is out there, you cant fight it on your own, its to serious an illness

I am bipolar myself and first of all TAKE YOUR MEDICATION. Every episode you have means your next could be sooner and worse. It is damaging your brain. It sounds like you have not fully accepted your illness if you are not getting proper treatment (MEDICATION IS THE ONLY PROPER TREATMENT-thearapy is to help you deal with the illness, not treat it). If you took the illness more seriously, then maybe your husband will too. You should talk to your therapist about why you are not helping yourself by taking your medication and work through those issues so you can start taking your meds. I know that they are not fun, but it is the only way to protect yourself and your brain from the attacks of bipolar. ONCE AGAIN- TAKE YOUR MEDS!!

My doctors, Bipolar Alliance (a support group), National Alliance Mental Illness
have a joint session with ur theripist and then allow him to have the disorder explained to him.
First of all, take your meds! I think it's great that you are getting therapy and are taking steps to control your problem, but bipolar disorder is caused by brain chemistry, and there is only so much that therapy alone can do. Also, try to educate your husband about bipolar disorder as much as you can. If he still won't listen, ask your therapist for suggestions on how to deal with your husband. After all, you're the one with the disorder, so you need all the support you can get!
