smiling is to show a form of weakness.

Either to be nice or to LOOK nice, i guess now a days it's 90% a social thing.

Then when it's genuine it can be for lots of reasons, happiness but even sadness sometimes, it's just a way of letting out your emotions, most commonly joy and acceptance
