migraines ? how do you help someone with one ?
Question:
Answers:
My wife gets migraines and they really are awful, aren't they? If he has not already tried it, your husband should try a prescription for Imitrex (either pill or injection) and also Fiorinal. As far as what you can do, give him a quiet and dark room and leave him alone. A cold cloth over the eyes and sparkling water also might help.

I've had migraines for the past 15 years, so I can relate. If he's looking to prevent them, he should see a doctor. I've taken something called Inderal, which has helped quite a bit with the intensity and frequency of migraines. Also, during the headaches, there are prescriptions he can take, like Zomig or Relpax. But it's best to see a doctor first.
To help prevent migranes, (if your husband drinks them), try to avoid diet drinks. When I drank diet drinks (like Diet Coke) I got frequent migranes. Since I've switched to drinking water, I hardly ever get migranes. I hope this helps.
I would disagree with the leave him alone part.
Find out if darkness, laying down, . whatever, helps. With a bad migraine, it is hard to tell what you want, let alone tell someone else.
Just being there can be a huge sacrifice if the migraine goes a day, days, even a week. But it will be appreciated.
Try a gentle, gentle foot massage, bet he'll fall asleep feeling good, and be grateful you could just be close until the pain goes away.
Don't feel helpless, just be there.
