Gel Nails v. Acrylic Nails?
Question:
Is one better than the other??
Thanks :)
Answers:
I work in a salon, and one of our techs just got back from advanced training to become a Master Nail Tech. She learned a gel system. She was saying that gels are great for people who have their own natural nails and want some extra protection for them. Acrylic is good if you are hard on your nails or are needing to get them grown out. Once they're grown out you can switch over to the gels. They are very natural looking. One of our clients had them put on a couple weeks ago, and she said she absolutely loves them. (Her nails were grown out) She said she'll never go back to acrylic. They are slightly more expensive than acrylic I believe. Good luck

hairdoerbren has it right. Gels are for people who have nice natural nails because the gel just goes on as a form over your natural nail. It will look more natural than an acrylic but it will not be as strong as acrylic.
Acrylics are a tip with the powder and while they are harder on your natural nail, they cover the entire nail and are much stronger.
I have really nice natural nails and I have had gels and acrylic. I personally like the acrylic better because I hate to break a nail. In 5 years of acrylics I have had 2 breaks both from playing ball with my dogs.
its not that one is better really. Gels hold up better in my experience. Gels look more natural. Gels don't yellow like an acrylic can. Gels take more time in salon and cost more. If you have short oily nail beds and are harsh on your hands i would recommend gels. Keep in mind if you don't have a free edge you will want your artificial nails to be sport length, this is a natural looking short nail. Without a free edge an artificial nail will get a stress crack and not hold up long before it lifts and or breaks. Look for a gel product made by Backscratchers, its from Switzerland is the hottest new gel system in the USA this summer. Ask around to find out who's using it and I would go for them. This brand of new gels has been used many years in Europe and has awesome ratings! It should be introduced in some salons right about now. Best of luck!
