Why do some people choose to suffer with cramps rather than take pills to relieve it?
Question:
Answers:
Misinformation is the biggest reason. A previous answer suggests that every time one takes a pain pill it harms the stomach. That's an example of misinformation that can scare people away from reasonable steps that could make them comfortable. Aspirin has a reputation for harming the lining of the stomach. That can happen, but only after taking aspirin in large, frequent doses for many days. The simple solution to that is to take enteric-coated aspirin, which does not dissolve in the stomach. If one is allergic to aspirin - and one should NEVER assume on one's own that one is allergic - then there are other over-the-counter medicines that can relieve cramps. Motrin is one, tylenol is another. Then there are the medicines meant specifically for menstrual cramps, such as Pamprin. Several of the women I've known very personally have found that a heating pad or hot water bottle held against the area that's hurting can help the painkiller pills work better. It is foolish to fail to make onesself comfortable when it's so easy and inexpensive to do so because Aunt Myrtle or some other poorly informed person tells you it is dangerous. Take your pills and brew Aunt Myrtle a nice cup of tea and change the subject!

I think a lot of people are scared to take pain medications. I've always heard that every time you take pain pills the lining in your stomach bleeds.
Either their parents don't encourage it (with kids anyways) or else they are paranoid about the potential 'risks'. Although with Tylenol and stuff like that I think the benefits largely outweigh any risks! SO I think they are just uninformed or misinformed. Because that pain should not be something that is gone through when unnecessary!!
pills do not work for everyone
Don't know. I'm the first to jump on pain medication :-) I guess the same reason people don't get epidurals :-)
I don't know but I take the strongest pills I can get my hands on and still can't get out of bed for 2 days!
After awhile your body gets immune to the medicine and it doesnt have the same affect as it did.
Some people (like me! lol) just don't like taking medication in general and figure the discomfort will go away soon enough. I wouldn't like to depend on any kind of medication anyway.
pills like midol make me nauseous and don't help my pain so i end up feeling worse
Some women may wish to endure their cramps 'naturally' (just as some people would prefer to tough out a headache rather than take medications for it.)
Also some women may not know what pills are available and whether they really work!
Some people don't get bad cramps. Some people don't like taking medicine for it because they think they will bleed more because pain relievers can thin your blood. It just depends on the person. Sometimes I don't get cramps at all, sometimes I get really bad cramps. Some people just don't want to walk all the way to the medicine cabinet to get the pills to take. And sometimes the cramps just arent bad enough to take pills for.
there are many facts about this some people are afraid that they are going to get addicted to them others just believe that taking meds is bad for you it is just how you look at it.
