How to convince someone that he/she is suffering from a depression.?
Question:
Answers:
You can't. They have to realize for them-self,accept and seek professional help. That will be the hardest thing if he/she is accepting to the fact there is problem.
Unfortunately I believe there is still a stigmata attached to the thought of anyone having "Mental Illness". So many people suffer in silence, not knowing the what , why or how about there illness due to public ignorance and prejudgment.
There are so many organization today that offer many services to help someone find the proper professional treatment and counseling to carry on a happy and balanced lifestyle.
Best you can do is to be there for this person, do some research, get some info. together then sit down w/ him/her and explain how care for them, how concerned you are about the changes you have noticed and that there is help available. Let them know you are willing to help though this difficult time ( along with anyone else whom he/she may want involved)..they are not alone.
Give them the material to look over, wait a day or two- then ask what they thought.

That's a tough one. Usually when someone suffers from depression they no longer do the things that they once enjoyed. They withdraw into themselves. Try pointing this out to them. Let them know that you're doing this with their best interest at heart & it's not an attack on them. Let them know that millions of people suffer from depression everyday, and it IS treatable. They may have to take meds but usually thats a temporary thing.
Best of luck.I admire you for looking out for your friend.
Depression is a tough thing for a person to admit to. I know. I've there. You should probably seek professional help to talk to this person. Good luck.
Waiting to see the answers that you get for this questions. I'm curious too. Professionals can not and will not talk to someone that will not admit that there is even a possibility of a problem.
Usually you don't. Unfortunately, few people want to look at themsleves close enough to admit that they may have an issue. Especially if the person is older as to admit weakness is a no-no in their eyes.
You can try talking to the person, reminding them of things that you use to do together or remind the person about things that they enjoyed that they no longer have any desire for. If they talk and you can hear the depression in their voice or in the way they're making statements, you can try to tape them and play it back for them to hear.
I'm attaching a site which has a short quiz for possible depression. While it's not a diagnostic tool, it is an aide and may help you (and the person you're concerned about). Good luck!

let them know you don't think they are inferior, because they have faults just like everybody.i found out i had it by looking at a poster with the symptom listed and knew i was going though all of them.so i ended up getting treated for it later.what the poster said was on some site about depression ,i am not sure which one.but if you find it print it out and show it to them.and tell them if treatment mite work why not try it ,i did ,and it helps a little.tell them i said that. but the problem is to many people think its a failing of some sort, its not.i had someone really set of my symptoms by cheating on me after saying they wanted to marry me.stuff like that don't help, but i had the unbalance before it just really went overkill after that.i did nothing wrong to that person.so even if that type of thing has happened.it does not mean a person is bad or stupid lAZY INFERIOR OR ALL THE STUPID THING PEOPLE SAY.IT JUST MEANS SOMEONE HAS AN INBALANCE THAT THERE IS HELP FOR.GOOD LUCK.
A lot of people suffer from depression, just few of them want to go for treatment. A lot of greit poets were suffering from mental dissorder, yet we all respect 'em.
Depression is mother of all creative work. Belive it or not, some people actualy enjoy it.
Don't try to convice him/her in nothing. Buy him/her a notebook. Give him/her present..some grait book of philosophy that is dark, yet egocentric. It is good way to avoid suicidal ideas.
Not everybody are born to be happy. You must respect it. In the end, if someone is not depressed today he is crazy. World is falling apart. We do not need to cure every person who realises that.
