can head injury cause depression?
Question:
Answers:
I had H I when I was 11. I am now 38. For years I have been getting downers and these have at times made me cry buckets.
About 4 years ago I was in meeting and I just flipped with my temper. And I just sobbed like a 2 year child. I was sent home and sent to docs. Gave me some tabs. (I have never slept so much in my life) A couple of weeks later went to see shrink. I sobbed and I told her some things in my life. I then told her that on occasions I am hyper and other times I am sobbing. (I'll get to point in a minute)
After about the third meeting with this shrink she told me that I had a sort of depression. But this was not chemical its to do with the mood swings. Apparently I have had my 'emotional' side of the brain damaged.
I am up and down like a yo-yo. One day I am hyperactive and peeps think I am on drugs. And the other day I am like said earlier in tears.
The answer to your question is YES you can get depression from a head injury (I am no Psychologist)
Other causes of depression are not being able to do simple things that you used to do prior to the head injury. It gets so frustrating.
I hope this helps and all the very best.

Ask your doctor, but I think I would be pretty depressed if I had a head injury. :)
It's possible.
yes and all kinds of other mental problems
yes
Probably! Contact your doctor. It really just depends on what part of your head/brain was damaged when you were hurt. I'd look into it.
yes,it can also cause aggression, and lots of other mental health problems.
I believe, you can get not only "Depression" but couple of other problems as well (i.e.: headache). It's not recommended to hit your head since it's one of the weakest organs that you have (even though you have a skull that protects the insides) :)
Yes it can. All it has to do is affect neuropeptide release from certain parts of your brain.
Serotonin, dopamine, etc. levels can be skewed after an injury and can definitely cause psychiatric illnesses.
Yes!
Injuries to your frontal lobe (and probably other areas of the brain too)can give you depressions and other mental/emotional/physical problems.
Some years ago one of my friends got hit by a bus and hurt her head (frontal lobe) severely and almost died.
After that she have had depressions, seizures, and other mental/emotional problems but also motor problems(coordination of limbs, walking etc.).
Now the doctors have found a brain tumor in her head(it was NOT there when she was in the accident).I pray for her.She has been through so much in her life and now she has a little daughter to take care of.GOD BLESS HER.
Zoneamerica, "the forever damaged"?
First of all what kind of head injury are you talking about? Head injuries can cause a host of things and I would bet that it could cause depression as well. Have you been seen by your doctor recently? Did he order any CAT Scans or head x-rays? Before you look any further about this answer in this forum, you best get to your doctor and tell him or her what happened and go from there. Good Luck to you!
YES.my brother got a concussion and is often depressed from injury and alsocertain medications can cause depression.
