What importance is there in eating meat especially for children? Is it for protein mostly?

Question:
I have a home daycare and we are supposed to give them 1 meat at lunch. Since most simple and quick meats are very fatty and high in cholesterol I was wondering what the importance of meat is so that I could find meat substitutes. For example if it is for protein I could just give them noodles since they have around 7 grams of protein which is about the same as the other quick and easy meats I had been using. Can you help me?

Answers:
Meat is a major source of essential nutrients, including: protein, Zinc and Vitamin B12. Note, vegetarians often have low intakes of Zinc and B12 because they avoid meat.

Best wishes.
