What are your experiences with mental health workers? Do you feel you got help, or a big con?

Answers:
My first experience was sitting down for an evaluation. The mental health worker, a young female college graduate, spoke down to me and actually had no people skills! Once I told her I was not mentally challenged, but had a mental illness and corrected her on some of the information she was writing down, she stopped writing and started to take me seriously - we never had a problem after that and yes, she turned out to be very helpful, getting me involved in editing a newspaper, teaching people how to get their GEDs, and finally, she submitted my resume for a job and I got it.

The "big con" comes in if you let yourself be assigned to, and stay with, someone who doesn't care if you improve or not. Good luck.

Other Answers:
I think a person may possibly benifit from talking to one of those people but you still have to know where you stand as a person for yourself before you go into stuff like that IMO. My mom has talked with many health care workers over the years and gotten many drugs from them in order to "fix" her but it was just last year after about 15+ years of care that they told her that the medication was on was not really doing her much good in terms of really solving her problems or making her well. Take a look at that comedy movie called What about Bob starring Bill Murry and see for yourself what you think for your own self about all this. It may not be a serious movie but I bet that there is a good amount of sobering truth in it.
