pelvic exams?

Question:
have any of you ever had a pelvic exam. im afraid it will hurt, and be embarrasing.

Answers:
It shouldn't hurt. I count it as one of life's necessary "evils." I don't think any woman looks forward to her yearly pelvic exam. I was embarrassed the first time I had it done. It's a normal and necessary part of staying healthy. As with any medical procedure, be proactive. Educate yourself ahead of time. If you have any questions or concerns, write them down prior to your appointment. That way you won't walk out with any unanswered questions. Be up front with your doctor. Tell him/her that this is your first time. Most doctors are more than happy to take time to answer your questions and calm your fears. If you're not happy when it's over, find another doctor. I've listed a couple of links to articles regarding pelvic exams from the web.md site.

God Bless!

it doesn't hurt, although it is a bit akward. It's scary if it's your first one, but that's normal. I was scared to death, and still get nervous. It doesn't take long, so just try to grit your teeth and bear it, it'll be over before you know it.

Pelvic exams can be very uncomfortable. Nothing about the situation is pleasant. Lucky for me, my doctor continually talks to me to keep my mind off of what is going on.

Do not be afraid! There is nothing to it. Only takes a few minutes and you're done. Once you get it over with you'll be glad you went. And there is also nothing to be embarrassed about unless you have some "issues" down there. A doctor has seen just about every type there is. You should go to get a check up.

It shouldn't hurt. I would suggest tho if you have a male dr. to insist that there is a female nurse in the room when you have the exam. Always.

I was a little bit worried about my first pelvic exam too, but it wasn't painful at all. It's natural to be a little embarrassed the first time. Hopefully your doctor will explain everything as he/she goes along and make you comfortable with the procedure. If you tell you're doctor that you're a little worried, maybe he/she will help you with your fears.

Remember to relax your bottom, don't hold your breath and let him/her know you're nervous. If it's painful you can ask them to use a smaller speculum and ask them to slow down so you can relax a little. Try not to be too nervous. It only takes a couple of minutes anyway! Maybe you'd be more comfortable with a female doing it?

This is a great site which explains step by step what to expect. It also tells you how to make the experience easier and how to prepare so you get the most accurate results. Remember, Pelvic exams and Pap smears may save nearly 16,000 women from dying of cervical cancer this year.
So read up and relax.it is not as bad as you think!
