Why does a cold take so long to get over? What the best way to get rid of it?

Question:
I want to get rid of this darn cold! I have a really stuffy nose and I want to know what to do.

Answers:
Colds are caused by a number of different viruses. That's the key here. They are viral infections, which means that for the most part, there is no medication that will "cure" the cold. The virus must be conquered by your own body's immune system. You can help that by getting as much rest as possible, ingesting lots of water, and limiting your activities - mostly so that you won't have as much opportunity to infect someone else. You can take measures to avoid colds. Try to stay away from crowded places, as much as you can, and wash your hands often. Carry some of the liquid hand "sanitizer" with you, and use it often - if possible, every time you touch any surface that has been touched by someone else. This will help to keep the viruses away from your mouth, nose, and eyes, the principal entry venues for the viruses.

You could eat spicy food. Or sweat it out. Like I would take a hot shower then bundle up and sweat it out and of course take some type of cold syrup. Always helps me get over it faster.

There is still no way to cure the common cold. WHat works for me is to wait until it becomes an infection someplace, usually it goes to my chest or sinus, then the doctor can treat it.

It shouldn't, you are probably deficient in vitamins C and E.

Rest for two days and it will go away faster. Also, take lots of hot drinks and preferably herbs especially for flus and colds.

Eat fresh fruits, rich in vitamin C.

the weak colds are usualy 3 days, and after that you get beter.for getting rid of it,its good not to eat strog food, and take a long nap,eat soup and foods like this, smell the organic flowers is good for it to,if its realy bad take an asprin and sleep,i hope you get beter!

bed rest (to let the body recouperate), soups (to warm the body), oj and water (to flush out the germs)and a good old book to read to relax!!

Lots of rest and vitamins! Try to stay away from sweets and alcohol, fresh fruits and veggies are great for nutrients and vitamins that are needed for the body to heal itslef.
