Can anybody explain to me what certain haircut words mean?

Question:
Whenever I go for a haircut, I'm not looking for anything special, just a trim. Short, but not too short. But they always start asking me if I want a "2-inch" or a "3-inch" or something like that. What does that mean? Where I can find pictures of haircuts with their "names" so I can know which one I want?

Answers:
if you go to a professional hair salon versus a barber shop they will have professional hair books that give you ideas. always keep in mind your hair may not be the hair texture in those books. inches may be barber's term of how close you want your hair like with a trimmer. if not with a trimmer just scissors that means length like your ruler that would be length or layers.

Other Answers:
ususally when they say inches (like 2 inches) it means the amount that you want them to take off- a standard trim I would say would be about 1-2 inches

tel clean shave head and beard he will know his job

I suggest you ask the hair cutter what they mean. Don't be afraid to ask professionals what they're talking about. Practice this with the hair person, and you'll be ready for when your doctor starts saying things you don't understand. This is a critical life skill that you'll be glad you have.
