any advice on coloring hair?

Depends on what you are trying to do.

If you are going for a MAJOR change, go to a professional.

If you have very light hair, I would go to a professional.

If you have medium brown hair or darker, you can use a do-it-yourself rinse. Just be very careful the color you choose.

Stay away from anything that has "Ash" in the color, like "ash blonde," as it ends up turning green.

Don't go too far from your natural shade. Be conservative and remember you can always do it again and choose a higher level of color.

I stay away from "permanent" colors. I use the semi-permanent colors and prefer the Clairol ones such as the "Natural Instincts." Its my favorite and it makes your hair soft and smooth. Even though it says "washes out in X number of washes," the fade is much slower, and it generally works its way out without leaving drastic looking roots.

Follow the recommended time limit, especially with red tones. If you don't you can end up with pink hair.

If you have a major booboo, purchase a "clarifying" shampoo, and generally the cheaper (like White Rain) the better. This will help strip the color out of your hair.

I have done my own hair as well as that of friends for years and have had great luck.

Good luck!

I love the loreal hair color treatment. Some boxes come with two (1 hair color application and 1 hight light application)

Well, if you're gonna change your hair drastically, I'd suggest going to a professional. But if it's only a minor change, let's say light brown to medium blonde or medium brown to black, I'd use Revlon's High Dimension haircolor. It yields pretty good results and only has a 10 minute processing time. They also make highlights.

My hairstylist hates the fact I color my own hair, cause of course he wants the money. He did give me some good advice tho, stay away from Hair Coloring Products that have 'metalic' in them, apparently these dry your hair out more than the others. He suggested, L'Oreal, Clairol, or Herbal Essence, he said AVOID Feria (which is what I USED to buy).

Good luck.*!*.

Most defiantly, go to a salon

I've done my own hair and it came out very well. You just want to make sure to use conditioner so you don't dry your hair out.

well you can do it at home, but here are some things you need to know about some dyes, dont do ash colors, they have green tints in the dye and will give you either a green tint to your hair or just turn your hair green, if you have dyed your hair before and then decide to go with something with red tones you might have to get a filler for your hair to get the red tones to stay, my sisters hair does not hold red without one it will wash out within two weeks. and if you do go with the self dye, dont go with the cheapest dyes. i have been dyeing my hair at home since i was 14 and i have found that loreal dyes do work the best. Also if you have long and thick hair you should buy two boxes just incase you run out, that has happened to me before also. but if you have the money or dont trust the at home dyes go to a professional, they have more selection of colors and can help you find the one that will look the best on you and they can add high or low lights to the dye for a little extra.

Error on the side of conservative. Be careful not to go too dark or too light.

Check virtual websites that allow you to download your picture to view the hair color before making a change. I would definitely go to a salon for the fear of it coming out an unnatural color. I prefer softer highlights. Maybe you can start out with that. I have dark brown hair with light brownish red highlights. I didn't think that I would like it but it brings out my complexion more than one solid color. Highlights do not have to be as drastic.

let me do it.i rock at it.highlighting or anything ya need!

you should get it done professionally but if you really want to do it yourself follow the instructions on the box and wear rubber gloves. use a colorsafe conditioner and shampoo. lol sry if i didnt help much! happy Easter!

Dont go Green or Orange
