Try a Chiropractor. They will evaluate you, will be able to rule out medical issues, and will be able to identify mechanical problems that could very well be causing your pain. Just remember, there isn't a magic button to push and heal you overnight: it will take some time. Stick to whatever treatment plan you are given and you will improve.
Other Answers:
go to the doctor so he/she can tell u what's causing it.
get an MRI of your back
I really hope this helps as I have been going thur the same thing and this is what I did. I had a friend tell me to get in contact with the Texas Rehabilitation Department. They paid for my surgery,I had a crushed nerve in L-5,S1. Division for Rehabilitation Services
Read Louise Hay's book, You Can Heal Your Life. Back pain usually indicates issues around being supported by others. I have used this book for over 25 years, and now my older children have their own copies as well. They love it!
You would be amazed at what you can learn about yourself in reading her works.

The first question would revolve around where the pain is located. Is it centralized to a specific region or vertebrae? If so it may be a crushed nerve or dislocation.
If it is not generalized or it is mostly in the upper back/neck it may be fibromyalgia.
Also have you had any back injuries? Have you flipped your mattress recently? Do you have any other symptoms such as fatigue or muscular issues. Try taking all this information to a D.O rather than an M.D. The may recommend you see someone else, change your mattress, or they may manipulate your spine.
are you taking care of children or lifting havy objects or carrying your child? are you working hard at home or at your job? is the pain located under your rib, lower back or upper back is it on the sides or in the spine . I had this back pain problem for almost 5 to six years from this date but now I am not having because I guess its because I took centrum senionr vitamins (this is for 50+) and caltrate+D. Iam guessing you might be developin Osteoarthritis or Osteopenia. Or your muscles are not functioning well. this could be lack of vitamins. if you feel tired. vitamin B complex is good. this is my opinion. and please ask a doctor
Being an alternative medicinal therapist myself i can tell you that you can forget GPs go to an acupressure/acupuncturist, or go to an Iridologist, they can tell you which area is causing the problem in your back
