How do i read a Sleep apnea report?

Question:

I GUESS THAT ABOVE IS BASICALLY THE PURE SLEEP APNEA PORTION OF A SLEEP STUDY!

SLEEP STUDY ALSO INVOLVES A REM ( RAPID EYE MOVEMENT) WHERE YOUR BRAIN GOES INTO A CERTAIN TYPE OF DESIRABLE SLEEP!

THIS CAN BE DISTURBED BY APNEA FOR ONE OR LEG JERK OR MUSCLE TWITCH. THINGS THAT KEEP YOU FROM GOING INTO THIS DEEP SLEEP.

OXYGEN LEVEL IS MONITORED ALSO AS WELL AS PULSE AND RESPIRATION! IT REALLY TAKES THE DOCTOR TO TIE IT ALL TOGETHER!

BUT WHEN YOU SEE WHERE YOUR EYES ARE DARTHING AROUND IN THE STUDY THAT IS WHERE EVERYTHING IS A OK . YOUR OXYGEN , PULSE, THAT IS WHERE THE REM DEAL IS GOING ON! THIS IS IN A COMPLETE SLEEP LAB STUDY. I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS WHAT YOUR REPORT HAS ON IT ALSO!

THE BASIC PRESCRIBED DEVICE IS A CONSTANT PRESSURE DEVICE CALLED A CPAP IT INFLATES THE AIRWAYS CONSTANTLY. IN SOME PATIENTS A DOCTOR MAY PRESCRIBE A DEVICE WHICH COST CONSIDERABLY MORE WHICH REGULATES THE PRESSURE 2 WAYS INHALE AND EXHALE "BI" THE DEVICE MENTIONED ABOVE. IT MAKES THE PRESSURE LESS WHEN YOU ARE EXHALING THAN WHEN YOU ARE INHALING . IT IS EASIER WHEN A HIGHER PRESSURE IS REQUIRED! OR THE PERSON CANNOT TOLERATE THE PRESSURE, CANNOT BREATH OUT AGAINST THE PRESSURE! LIKE REVERSE BREATHING!

I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE CPAP IT IS MY NEXT BEST FRIEND !

ASK THE DOCTOR TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU!

I am 60 years old and fought sleep apnea for at least 40 of them! You sleep but there is not quality sleep. You are asleep and do not realize that you are not maybe breathing regularly. The brain does not go into REM true sleep. It took a visit to a sleep clinic following the pushing of my family. Check with your family doctor. It gave me back about 20 years!!

I literally feel younger and much better each and every morning, I fought it though, honestly with every thing inside me, I am hard headed and self sufficient. Tried every home remedy vitamin, herb, extract and tonic.

IF IT IS YOU WHO HAS SLEEP APNEA THEN GET TREATMENT!

IT IS EASILY TREATED!

YOU WILL FEEL MUCH BETTER I PROMISE YOU!

IF IT IS A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER THEN GET THEM TO A SLEEP CLINIC! MY WIFE SLEEPS LIKE A LOG NOW! MY MACHINE GIVES OFF A LOW HUM I DO NOT SNORE OR MAKE ANY NOISE AT ALL! AS A MATTER OF FACT I AM THINKING OF SENDING HER OFF TO A SLEEP CLINIC AS SOON AS WE RECOVER FROM HURRICANE KATRINA!

HAVE A GOOD DAY AND SWEET DREAMS!

The key thing is to look at the times your oxygen saturation dropped below 88%. ALso the percentage of time spent below that level. Other important things is the number of apneic (not breathing) episodes, if any. All of these are taken together to see if you need a BiPAP machine to sleep with. Hope that helps a bit!

A Dr. who specializes in sleep medicine usually reads the reports from sleep studies. There is alot of information in the reports, and a specialist needs to interpret them.
