I lost my voice. What can I do to get it to come back quickly?
Question:
Answers:
Try to avoid talking very much. DEFINATELY avoid shouting, screaming and singing - Make sure you don't need to shout by moving close to the people you're talking to, turning off the TV/radio/stereo when you're talking so you don't need to raise your voice. Move away from noisy machinery (such as washing machines).
Use an alternative way of getting people's attention such as waving, putting your hand up, clapping, whistling or touching them, instead of calling out to them.
Drink lots of water - tepid water is best. Avoid drinking very hot or cold drinks. Avoid drinks containing cafeine and alcohol.
Don't smoke and try to avoid being in places where other people are smoking.
Try to make sure the air in your home is not too dry (this can happen if you have central heating or air conditioning). Consider putting a bowl of water near heat sources.
Inhaling steam can be useful.
Suck boiled sweets because these encourage saliva to flow and keep your throat moist (but also think about your teeth!)

DO NOT TALK AT ALL TODAY. Write notes or something the more you talk, the longer it will take for your voice to come back. Drink tea with honey and suck on Halls it really works. When you go back to work try to talk very softly, I know it will be hard but that is what you have to do if you want your voice to come back. My boyfriend just went through the same thing and he is a Teacher also. Good Luck.

Gargle warm salt water, drink warm liquids such as cocoa, hot tea, warm milk. Believe it or not a relaxing hot bath or shower helps, the steam has something to do with it. Try lozenges and rest your voice for as long as you can, dont strain by trying to talk, dont even answer the phone!
