How can I calm everyday nerves?
Question:
Any new tips to avoid it or to calm them, food or drinks that help, apart from the usual yoga? Cheers guys!
Answers:
2 things have worked for me.
1. Keep yourself busy, do something you like. I have about 6 different hobbies!
2. Deep breathing. When I do a performance at my school, I give myself 5 minutes to keep myself calm by breathing.
A prayer doesn't go amiss either.
Other Answers:
Sports and exercise in general.
Concentrate on the reasons and improve yourself in this area
I also suggest you become more knowledgeable (read, books, discuss etc) about stuff you do daily so you have more self-confidence.
3 suggestions: Sit in the sun, play sports, or drink a glass of wine; if not all 3.
Tea, especially green tea, is very relaxing. I also enjoy reading to escape the real world. I personally like mysteries because it helps me think about someone else's problems and makes my own seem so much smaller :)
gardening, music [like relaxation tapes/ambiance], hot baths with candles/incense

You could try to avoid bad nerves or as I believe take them head on. I have tried and tested certain personal methods for relieving nervousness at or in certain situations. For example, if you are stressed by loud noise, then make it a habit to spend a while every few days in a very noisy environment such as a construction site, or even play loud music to yourself. Once you are accustomed to it, it won't affect you so badly in the future. Basically you need to focus on what you get nervous about and make a calculated plan to immerse yourself in that very thing. The benefit of a plan is that while you are in the situation that makes you nervous, you find confidence in that you put yourself in the situation. In other words, the situation is by your calculation and by your control. You decide how long you will spend there, and you decide when you have reached a level of comfort. By constantly practicing this "self empowerment", I believe that any level of comfort and confidence can be reached. Of course this works for me, and I am not saying we are the same. You can try it and see what happens.
If some of the smaller side effects of your general nervousness are that you feel edgy and jumpy, then you could try certain holistic remedies, such as lavender essential oil for relaxation. You may drop it onto your clothes or onto a handkerchief to smell at your pleasure. This will also help you sleep if you put a few drops onto your pillow at night. My mother is an aromatherapist and so I learned the odd thing from her. It worked on my 2 year old son though. One drop and he's out like a light.
stay away from the caffiene and chocolates. they will make you more jittery. try more pasta and turkey, turkey has a relaxer in it naturally
1.) Meditation
2.) Tea with lavender, mint, and/or chamomile
3.) Reading by candlelight (don't read anything disturbing)
4.) Watch the film, "The Straight Story", a real tranquil feel-good flick!
