How do I keep myself from shopping when I'm bored or sad?

Admit yourself into shopping rehab. Just kidding.

Assuming that you shop frequently, for it to be an issue, then I would suggest a few things.

1) Take your credit cards out of your purse tonight and put them in a small bowl. Walk to the sink and run enough water into the bowl to submerge the cards. Now walk to the freezer and place the bowl of card water in the back behind the chocolate ice cream. Close the door and go to bed. The next day the cards will be cardcicles and be inaccessible in a hurry for those impulse shopping 'fixes'. But they will be there in an emergency if needed.

2) When you have the urge to shop, do so without the cards. Shop only with cash. It's often easier to slow your roll through the checkout register when you give actual money away. Especially after parting with a Benjamin or 2.

3) Finally, the next time you get bored, go through all the stuff you've had to have accumulated by now, pull out as much as you can part with (a shirt you haven't worn in a year is a candidate), and have yourself a merry little yard sale. Take the proceeds and save them in a coffee can and bury it in your back yard to be dug up only on the days you are sad. Money cant buy happiness but it can show you a good time while you're waiting for it.

Anyways, I hope this helps. Good luck.

Try Masturbation!

You need to find other things that make you happy. Some people eat a jug of ice cream, you go shopping. Take a walk on the beach or something, something soothing.

its a big world out there---ur not connectd to it

go to a movie, take up a hobby. i like quilting.. well, i guess that requires quite a bit of shopping.. you know. i just last night accidently purchased a 48k dollar piece of property that i can by no means come anywhere close to affording..i think i'd better keep track of your answers myself

You can't, it's like a habbit, you have to do it! Or seek help from a Doctor.

I dont know, I have the same problem. So if you find a good answer let me know!

I usually do crazy stuff like singing very loud (but don't do with near anyone, its annoying). Or watch tv or try to remember your sweet time with the one you loves. Just do stuff that can express your feelings.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I just like going to the mall, store, ect and pick out things I like and try on cute clothes. Then when its time to go home I put the merchandise back. I feel fulfilled "shopping" without actually buying.

Find some hobbies and interrests that motivate you, instead of just going with the instant gratifications available.

For all you are is what you do in life. Everything else is just circumstancual.

Hobbies and interrests build motivation. It motivates you to learn more, and become self taught. It makes you struggle to achieve being better (instead of just buying better) but it does it in a self motivating way, so you learn to deal with the stress more naturally.

It build charecter, makes you a stronger person, gives you something real time to talk about besides who's screwing who, puts your life in action instead of just observing, is a constructive lifestyle instead of destructive like drugs and alcahol, gives you the foundation of building friendships baced on something other then sex or clicks.
