Actually, you should go see a Dr. You may have low thyroid function. If all checks out, then the best suggestion I can give is to go on a diabetics diet, stay away from eating triggers like watching TV, go to OA(overeaters anonymous, eat in the morning to help with nite cravings and some of the other suggestions given.

I can't stop eating when I am under a great deal of stress, especially when I have a test or research paper to study for. If that is your case, you need to find out what is worrying you, then try to manage it with positive thinking. Remember the golden rule: everything is temporary. Ask yourself: Will (fill in the blank)make a difference in my life say five years from now?

Force yourself to drink a lot of water before you eat any food and you will not feel like eating much. Or, make sure you eat fruit or vegetables if you eat anything. Fill yourself with fiber and you will not be hungry. If you eat "junk" it does not fill you up so you continue to eat. If you crave candy, eat fruit first, it tends to make a sugar craving disappear and there aren't many calories or fat in fruit by comparison.
Get busy doing other things, be active, always have a full schedule and you will probably not think of food quite as often. Don't sit and watch TV especially around average meal times or late at night because they show many food commercials. If you look at magazines, there are many ads for food also, so steer clear of those too, if that tends to make you want to eat.
Did I mention drinking lots of water..always have water to drink with you everywhere..even try lemon, or lime, or flavor it slightly if you need to. And I think water always tastes better with ice in it.

Maybe its the same with you. If so, do things that you enjoy as much as possible, and find ways to get more enjoyment out of things that you have to do but don't enjoy. And keep busy and active!
I agree with Plutopian, however, lot of times we have to do things we don't enjoy, like going to work and staying there for hours! Why don't you write down everything you eat and the quantity (for example, 200g of chocolate chip cookies)? At the end of the day look at your list and see how much you've eaten. You will then feel embarrassed in front of yourself. For the next day plan a food list of what you are going to eat and enjoy sticking to it. At the end of that day look at your foodlist and you'll be really happy with yourself for sticking to your food list. Healthy food only, please! If you do it every day then at the end of the week you can reward yourself with something (like a chocolate cake).
