What's going on?

Question:
Someone informed me that they were dieting and working out for months and still haven't lost any weight. Do you beleive this?

Answers:
Sure - it depends on their 'diet' and on the type and level of activity they're doing. If you're eating generally healthy food but eating too much and/or not working at a reasonable intensity or for a long enough time you could stick at the same weight.

A lot of people think that eating 'healthy' foods and walking on the treadmill a few times a week will make them lose weight, and that's not necessarily the case. It's all about calories in vs calories out - you have to burn more than you consume if you want to lose weight. And if your friend isn't achieving that, then quite simply they won't lose weight.

And in some cases, if you're working out enough but you're not consuming ENOUGH food, your body hangs on to the calories and won't burn them as effectively because it's trying to protect its resources. My suggestion is that your friend see a doctor, dietitian and/or personal trainer and get some sound advice on how to improve their results, if that's in fact what they need.

Other Answers:
No, i don't.

I only do about 50 workouts a day on my little exercise machine..and i lose tons, without a diet.

Yes.
It could just be their body type.
Some people are naturally curvey etc.

no they have got to be cheating their diet or not working out near the amount they say they are. Its impossible

NO.

Well they could be putting on muscle - which is increasing their body weight..

And it depends what kind of diet.

And.what the hell.too many people only diet because the world says they're fat - 'bout time we had stores that offered clothes that fit 40% of the population instead of making them small to give women a complex. And ban those women's magazines with stick thin women on and touched up features.

It could be a thyroid problem.

Or, they could be like me - closet eaters - if no one sees me eat it, it doesn't count.

i don't diet at all, but i was working much lately and i lost pretty much weight (3 sizes).

but it's very individual. e.g. friend of mine when she's working much eat more and even grows fatter. and friend of my mom, grows fatter after dieting cause when she finishes diet her organism tries to compensate losses in callories. so sometimes it's more complicated and related to the metabolism problems. and some weight problems could be cured only through medical treatment.

Yes. The word "diet" can mean different things to different people. Plus, being at the gym does not mean you are working out. I see women all the time at the gym doing more talking then working out. Last, my son put on 35 pounds of muscle while training for his high school football team. Even though the scale was up 35 pounds, his pants were falling off of him.

yes. i've been working out and watching my diet for way longer than that and havent lost weight. when you exercise you gain muscle and that weighs more than fat so you could weigh more and be in better shape. she may also have an underactive thyroid like i do also, which makes it near impossible to lose weight in your curves- hips, breasts and butt.

I beleive!

Most likely dieting with chemical sweeteners like Aspartame. That stuff makes you FAT!
