Does getting a tan on a scar make it worse?

Question:
I had surgery to get my gallbladder removed a few months ago. I work at a pool during the summer. Will getting a tan on the scars make them worse?

Answers:
No, actually the tan will help them to fade.

Other Answers:
Scars don't tan. They will appear lighter than the rest of your skin.

i dont think so

Sun will mask it. But, be careful! Wear some sort of sunscreen at least!

actually, i don't think so, I have some scars on my stomach as well and I have been going to the tanning salon..it may not sound the same but both the sun and the tanning beds emitt ultra violet rays and this hasn't affected my scars at all..you may want to try using the viatimin E capsules on your scar and it will help rejuvinate the skin on and around the scar and its appearance..good luck to you and I hope this helps you.

my daughters scars from a burn when she was little wont tan it just makes it more ntasabel but it dosent bother her any more its like a conversation peice a lot of people ask and shes made friends that way

Scars are damaged skin and depending on the severity the pigment in them doesn't react the same to sunlight as undamaged skin. Most scars will not tan or will tan very slowly. Tanning will not make them more damaged but they will very likely stand out a bit from your tanned skin.
