How do I combat procrastination.

Question:
I procrastinate on nearly everything and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to become less of a procrastinator.

Answers:
buy yourself a large cannon and point it at your backside!!
:-) seriously though I found the book 'overcoming procrastination' by Dr Wendy Dryden really helpful, but that'll only work if you read it.
a good tip is just to tell yourself you'll do 10 mins and only 10 mins and then if you want to you can stop. generally I find that once I start I get involved and end up completing it . it's just getting started thats the trouble. also on a more serious note really bad procrastination can be part of a bigger problem like depression. please seek help if you think you might need it.

I'll get back to you on that.

Start working on the problem tomorrow

Remember the Nike commercial? :) I literally have to tell myself that, and it does kinda work - just do it lol! and, give yourself small rewards for finishing difficult tasks.

procrastination is admitting defeat before you even start. Don't be a loser before you even start.

procrastination is a wonderful thing. why would you want to stop. life is too fast. stop and enjoy it.

There is one and only one way, but it will take a tremendous amount of will power, DO IT NOW, NOT LATER.

Well I feel that Procrastination is caused by one of two things, Laziness or the need of a challenge. I suffer from both. I have been putting of a paper for about a week now because I am too lazy to do it, in fact i am putting it off to write this. I have also waited until the last minute to do things for the simple reason that I wanted to see if I could pull it off. Either way the sollution to the problem is just telling your self. "Get off you lazy butt and get to work or you will never amount to anything and you will end up living IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER".

Try choosing on task and force yourself to do it. Then get pysched up for another one and dive in. You don't have to do it one right after the other, but do one. Then next week (for example) do another.

There's a law or theory that goes something like "A body at rest tends to stay at rest; a body in motion tends to stay in motion."

When I get home from a hard day at work (spending most of my time HERE answering questions!), I'm pooped. But certain things need to get done. So rather than stopping to change clothes, or sit down for a quick breather, I get right to them. Straight to the kitchen to empty the litter boxes, prepare the coffee..etc.

THEN when everything is down, I switch to the body-at-rest mode, and I don't move again until the next day.

Same thing goes in the morning. When I actually do work, I try to get it done in the morning. Then in the afternoon when I'm in food-coma land, I can relax.
