Lump on the right side of my neck.. freaked!?

Question: Hey guys. For the past several months, I've had a small lump on the right side of my neck. Back in the winter I got sick with a sinus infection and next thing I knew, it was there. It's shrunk since then but it's still there (it's about the size of a pea). When I turn my head all the way to the left it becomes more apparent (sticks out of the skin a little more) and while it doesn't hurt, every so often the muscles around it feel a little sore going up to my right temple (especially when I get sick- ie, I have a chest cold right now and the entire area around the lump is sore: the lump itself is not). It's not odd in shape or anything like that.

I've shown it to friends/family and everyone claims it's a swollen gland and nothing to worry about. but the aspect of a lump anywhere on my body kinda freaks me out. (Yes, I know getting it checked is always best but until then, I could definatly use some opinion so I don't lose sleep over this.) Thanks so much.

don't worry about it. like your family has said it's just a swollen gland.

when you get sick, the bacteria or viruses that are making you sick travel through your lymph system and get stuck in the nodes. your cells of your immune system travel there to fight the infection. but they don't leave after, they just slowly die off. so that's what's going on here.

if you're really worried, you can just have it checked the next time you see your doctor and they'll tell you pretty much the same thing.

however, if it ever hurts when you push on it (which you say it doesn't right now) then you should think about seeing a doctor for it.

for now, rest easy, you've got nothing to worry about.

Dont worry yourself another day. It is an enlarged lymph gland and it is doing its job by fighting an infection in your body. It takes a long time for them to go back to normal size. I promise, after your completely well for a month and a half, the lump will be gone.

It's probably a swollen gland. I had that problem every time I was sick as a kid and sometimes when I wasn't.

Sounds like a gland to me to. See a doctor though, have it checked out.

it could be a swollen lymph node if so maybe then ur infections isn't completely gone go see a doctor and maybe they will put u on another course of antibiotics also though i had a lump on my neck that was fairly big so i went to the doctor and he did a test for strep throat there in the office even though my throat didn't hurt i thought he was out of i his mind but the test actually came back positive for strep throat and when i went on antibiotics it went away either way u should go back to your doctor.

possible your thyroid gland has a cist ,thwe growth will go away in time or it can be surgically removed.personally i prefer time over surgeryI say this because a female friend of mine has had the same symptoms .I dont profess to be a doctor,but give it time and see what happens ..good luck &God bless
