how to be more supple?

Question:
I am a 30 year old man, skinny but very very "unsupple"
I am ashamed to say that i cant even touch my toes even though my stomach is flat
How can i make myself more supple?
I know stretching does that but when i stretch to try and touch my toes, it really hurts
Which is ok but i just wanna know if i can do that even though it hurts or will i damage something even if i do it slowly?

Answers:
There is no need to be ashamed. All bodies are different (lenghts etc) and some people find this difficult (I can't either, I go half way between my knees and ankles although I am a quite fit person).
You just need to do the right exercise and streches. Get someone who knows to show you, be persistent and do the exercise regularly. That's it. Your body will learn and become more supple. Don't hurt yourself in the process. Don't expect too much if the genetics do not help you but there is definitely scope for improvement wherever and whenever you start.
Don't ashamed, just work a bit on it.
All the best

Other Answers:
Do the stretching very slowly and stop and hold it when you get to the point of feeling pain.

Pain is a warning - so stop!

You do need to do some exercice, progresivelly, suggest you try a yoga class, that is very "soft" (read no damage unlike say circuit training) and perfect for building suppleness. My wife is no athlete but far more supple than me (runner who can touch my toes) and she does yoga.

To become more flexible you must practice or exercise regularly. Martial Arts is an excellent means of becoming more supple. The regular exercise will strengthen you as well as make your body more flexible.
If you "hurt" when you exercise, you are only moving areas of your body you haven't used for a while. However, pain is a warning sign so DON'T overdo, and check with your doctor to be sure you don't have an underlying problem.
