First i would recommend h2ras Pepcid, Tagamet, Zantac
(generics are famotidine, cimetidine, and ranitidine) after those I would go Prilosec, Protonix, Prevacid, Nexium, Aciphex
and if you can get the generics go for it if you ever have to do medicare part d and you have these in the order i listed you can get any Proton Pump Inhibitor (the second group) authorized
Other Answers:
If its persistent - try Zanax (the purple pill) . Or, if its just something that comes up every once in a while like for me, then use Tums.
nexium
there are alot of types of meds, however you need to know if its because you have a problem with the flap at the back of your throat, acid indigestion or just eating to much. get pepsid a try, if this happens alot, see your local dr.

A spoonful of baking soda in a glass water.

Acid Reflux is the same as "belching." Heartburn is a pain at the area around the sternum. For both, Prilosec is the best OTC medication at present in this country. All the other meds require a prescription. Prilosec must be taken approximately 30 minutes before eating or it does not work. Take it as soon as you get up in the am-1 pill only. If your worst problems are after dinner or during the night, take 30 minutes before your nightime meal. You cannot however snack all afternoon, take the pill, and then expect it to be effective. If you are having reflux all day and night, you may take it in am and pm. This needs to be evaluated by a MD as soon as possible. You may have a hiatal-hernia(look it up-it is too hard to explain without a picture and there will probably be pictures on the net) which if you have left untreated for years could have caused damage to your lower esophagus called Barrett's disease. If this is left untreated, it could turn into esophageal cancer. If you have already been having reflux constantly for 2 years or more you need to see a Gastroenterologist. He may think you need an Endoscopy to look directly at your esophagus and stomach with a small scope passed through your mouth. You are put into a twilight-sleep or completely asleep for this procedure. Don't fear it. I have had one. Didn't remember a thing. Prilosec doesn't work for everyone. There are other prescription drugs available if this one does not.

For immediate relief try a couple swigs of gavison. You should try a stomach acid reducer such as prilosec otc, zantac, tagament etc..If these don't work, try a prescription med. like nexium, protonix, prevecid etc..
