The other word for Euthanasia is "suicide". That explanation should tell you what you need to understand. In many religions suicide is considered a sin, this fact goes double in the Catholic Church. In the eyes of most people of religous persuasion, the ending of one's own life voluntarily is a no-no. It matters not whether you are suffering.

Because we are supposed to let life take its natural course; Euthanasia would be considered suicide even though its intentions were to relieve a person's suffering. Praying for the person's suffering to end would be a better way.

Many people want to hold onto their loved ones, even if it means keeping them in a vegetative state. They'd like to hold out hope that doctors are about to find a way to help their family member, and if they turn off the life support and the person passes then they will never be able to get them back. They would like to hold onto the person that they've loved throughout their lives, and for this they would not want to kill them. Also, many people believe that choosing when someone dies is not their choice, but God's.

My father had an evil disease and chose to refuse medical treatment when his pain became to much. A passive suicide.
It was a relief to see his suffering end.
You can put in all the checks and balances but there will be risks and abuse.
I think it needs to be examined carefully before our societ makes that choice.
