how long do i have to wait to eat after having a silver filling placed?

Question:
i got one on each side of my mouth, so i can't just eat on one side. isn't it like 24 hrs, nothing hard to eat?

Answers:
Yes amalgam fillings need 24 hours to reach their maximum strength. Ideally you should avoid eating on them during that period but in your case i see you can eat normally, just avoid hard food.

after having most of my teeth filled/crowned/root canaled (I have BAD genes!) I usually wait at least 4-6 hours and just eat soft food that isn't sticky or chewy.and chew gently!.soup, yogurt, stuff like that should be ok to eat right away.good luck, I feel your pain!

its best to wait two hours

Don't eat when your mouth is still numb. You could hurt it and not know it. Other than that, eat what you want, when you want.

usually you only have to wait about one (1) hour. the cement they use is cured by light so it's o.k.

Be careful eating while you are still numb so that you do not accidentally bite your lips, cheek or tongue. It is best to wait 24 hours after the silver (amalgam) filling was initially placed to eat extremely hard foods as it does take approximately that long for the filling to reach it's maximum hardness.

The tooth coloured fillings (composites) are the fillings that are light cured therefore there is no need to wait a period of time before eating certain foods.
