I want your honest, educated opinion on the issue of South Dakota going anti-abortion. Elaborate please?
Question:
We went to Afghanistan for humanitarian reasons, this I firmly believe in, the treatment of women in that country was deplorable. Now, here in my safe haven, America, you want to put restrictions on my body as they did to their women.
Shame on anyone trying to decide my life for me, this is America, the land of the free.

Answers:
i feel exactly the way you do, you took the words that i was going to use. i dont think they should choose for us its not right, we have to have control over our own bodies its nobodys decision but our own.
Other Answers:
Bush and his friends have no shame and will enforce their will on everyone they can.
i think that is smart because abortion is just like killing and nobody should kill. Put them in a foster home.
Why not prevent pregnancy in the first place by saying no! You can take the birth control pill as well as other methods of birth control. Abortion is child murder! Take responsibility for your own life by doing the early work of being on the birth control pill or just saying no! Doctors don't like being baby killers.
I agree with you. This is a free country and I believe that women should have choice. We should practice what we preach. Its our body and we should be able to choose what happens to us.
I don't believe that abortion should be used as a form of birth control. If anything the government should help provide people of all ages with more accessible forms of birth control. Sex is going to happen whether anyone likes it or not. So more understanding and support would be nice and benefit society as a whole.
What South Dakota is doing is laying the ground work for a new Supreme Court battle on Roe v Wade.
The abortion issue should be decided by the individual on what is moral and what isn't., if one lets the court decide their moral issues, one has bigger problems than abortion.
People don't seem to understand that when you make something illigal it doesn't end there. It just goes underground, where the doctors who practice it will want more money. The conditions it is performed in will be horible, only creating more death and illness.
This is a sad step backwards for womeen's rights. It's just amazing to me that anti-choicers can just look past the need for this procedure in many cases. Rape, insest, health issues which could kill the mother. The legislation on this seems to be created by religious nuts that think that they have the right to take away another persons private rights.
Saaad world.:(
for me, the purpose of life has some limitations. when God placed Adam and Eve at the garden of eden, He said "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you it of it you will surely die." so where there is freedom, there is also limits to this freedom
If a person would take a babys life, May God or anything step in to stop them. We are not talking about just your life. That is like me saying that I don't want anyone to tell me that I can't take the life of a family member, Like a sister or a brother. They were once Badys. I little water around them doesn't change anything.
It is like Smokey the Bear said, "Only you can prevent unwanted pregnancies."
Good for South Dakota! People that are irresposible should just have to deal with it without killing someone. I do not think they are "making decisions" for women - you made the decision before you got knocked up - they are just trying to take away an immoral way for you to deal with it.
I am a guy, and I know there are a lot of women out there who will "beat their chest" and rant on about women's rights, etc..
However, in my personal opinion once a baby has been conceived and has grown inside its mother, regardless of its mothers good or bad intentions is a LIFE. No more than you want to be told whether or not you can kill your child, does your baby deserve to have his life snuffed out because his or her mom is on a power trip or doesn't care. Many women will argue the point about being raped and things of that nature. I would not expect a woman who was assaulted to keep the offender's baby, but what ever happened to adoption? The real question is, should a person (man or woman) have the right (moral or legal) to DECIDE whether or not an innocent child (who did not decide to be conceived) is to live or die. The only being who rightfully can decide that, is God. When you have never had a child, maybe it's easier to play like a god and decide whether a person lives or dies, but after becoming a father and looking into the eyes of my son and daughter [who are 1yr 8mos & 5mos respectively] I could not even imagine a life without them. And if my wife had decided such a cruel fate for one of these kids, I would have wondered for the rest of my life what they'd have been like. A child is a gift from God, and when someone decides to reject that gift with the ultimate form of rejection I can't help but wonder what He thinks of that person, at that point.
I am nearly twenty five years old. In my short life so far, I have seen the judicial system change so drastically that today, dogs and cats have more rights to life than a human baby does. How sick this world has become, and how pitiful that someone would sit there and be so cold toward their own offspring. I'd rather die a thousand times than watch my child die once.

Moral Value.. Something that is fading fast.
To TAG: What the heck are you talking about? You make no sense. Why don't you try speaking from PERSONAL experience rather than extrapolating data from what you see here and interjecting your own misinformed opinion?
mrscmmckim, If you are SO OPINIONATED about your "question," why even bother asking, if only to negate all the answers involved?? What you are saying is, that simply because the "WOMAN" is older than the baby, that she has more rights to life. That makes no sense whatsoever, and shame on you for thinking like a cold-hearted machine. The Bible does talk about people like you, ya know.
This is how I see it, if you don't want to have children you shouldn't have to. Even if you do get pregnant the government has no right to tell you what you can and can't do with your own organs.
to ngthekid: there is no reason to put a kid in the into the DCFS. You don't have a life in the system, people decide what's best for you but have no idea who you are, what you can handle and what you can't.
to phi 07: god didn't set any limitations on our freedoms, So why should people? Why should i have to follow rules that are seen fit to live by from others? Just because society feels one way doesn't mean I should have to play by their rules. right?
to leviballen: a person doesn't have to give anything to a person they don't want to right? so why should a person have to give another sustenance, with out the moms body the "baby"(in quotations cuz it isn't born yet) would die.
Good all you people that think abortion is wrong and it should not be allowed. I have a question for you all how many foster kids do you have living in your house. How many girls or woman have you taken into your household paying all expenses including medical bills for and then take care of the baby with no questions asked. You all can be pro life but how many of actually do something about it? I live in SD and I am totally upset that this state is so backwards that we are taking away rights of women. People have the right of free choice and nobody else can tell me what I can and cannot do to my body. Also for all you people upset upset my post I had my daughter at 16 and she is now 11 and I have raised her really well so don't preach to me about not being responsible. And all you pro lifers in my opinion need to step up and take care of all those kids that Will be unwanted do not just voice your opinion unless you are willing to take action to follow up your words or it is useless. We are only as good as our word and if you cannot show your beliefs with your actions then that is truly sad.
IT THINK ITS ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE SO MANY CHOICES,IT IS ALWAYS GOOD TO BE THAT FREE TO CHOOSE.YET IN THE SAME WAY I THINK OF FREEDOM I THINK THAT IT IS FOOLISH TO KILL THE LIFE THAT IS YOUR OWN BLOOD GROWING INSIDE OF YOUR BODY.I THINK THE WISEST CHOICE IS TO TAKE BIRTH CONTROL,USE CONDOMS,WHAT EVER A WOMAN HAS TO DO,INSTEAD OF HAVING BABIES SHE DOES NOT INTEND ON LETTING THEM BEING BORN,GROWING UP AND MAKING CHOICES OF THERE OWN.
Personally, I am actually against abortion on pretty much all means, I do understand where there are certain conditions that cant be helped, such as rape and failing contraceptives (although everyone should know there is no such thing as 100% safe). The reason why, is that abortion to me seems like a very easy way out, a way to keep from owning up to your responsibility to do whats right (with execution to rape), and you punish someone for your mistake that has done nothing wrong at all. Even in case of rape, an innocent person is being destroyed, and although I am anti-religious, I don't understand why you cant just go around and stab a newborn in the heart, but abortion is almost always legal, Even with methods such as adoptions, people get abortions because they don't want to go though with it, I've learned from being alive, that life isn't fair, but you shouldn't blame your problems on a scapegoat. My brother/sister was aborted, and I was actually going to be also, my parents never told me why I wasn't, so I was just thinking, how would you feel, if your parents did that to you, even if it was in case of rape? As for the law, I don't care either way, my option is not what the world works by.
You speak of rights for the woman, what of rights for the child? Who speaks for them?
I am happy that SD is challenging Roe V. Wade. This was a VERY bad interpretation of a law and should be challenged.
SD isn't going agains abortion in all instances, only those instances where abortion is being used as birth control, it clearly leaves the window open for when the health of the mother is involved. I think this should be closed, because now any doctor can say "oh, this isn't good for your health" and still perform the abortion.
You still have the choice, but you loose that choice when you decide that you are going to have sex. Plain and simple. If you don't want a child, don't have sex, if you want to have sex, but don't trust in the pill or condoms, then try something called "Natural Family Planning" which can be found by doing a simple Google or Yahoo search.
No one is deciding for you, you made your decision, what they are trying to do is decide for the baby that you have conceived, who, by-the-way, is the only person in the equation that can't make a decision for itself.
I realize that you are not asking a question to get an answer to, you simply want people to agree with you to justify your own thoughts. That is fine. I have given you my opinion, as you asked, and you are free to decide to listen to me or not.
With all due respect, those who wish to prevent abortions are NOT interested in 'deciding your life for you.' They are, for the most part, concerned about the life of the unborn.
You may disagree, or not understand, but can you at least understand that someone who sees that young life (and biologically it IS a distinct being) the same as they view a newborn baby ("a person's a person, no matter how small"), that they would be very concerned to protect THAT human life?
This view does NOT mean such people don't care about the life and well-being of the mother! On the contrary, though the media seldom tells us anything about it, many in those "pro-life" groups have, over the past few decades poured ENORMOUS efforts (time, money, their own homes) into helping provide help for a woman with an unexpected pregnancy. Far more than any political efforts these people have invested themselves in foster care and adoption agencies, shepherding homes (opening THEIR homes), counseling services for scared and desperate young women who don't know what to do (but being pressured by family or a boyfriend to abort, even if they don't wish to --they do NOT think of themselves as "exercising a right") as well as for those who struggle AFTER they have had an abortion --perhaps years later (as many studies NOT commissioned by pro-life groups! have found)-- to encourage them and help them heal.
I'm sorry if you haven't seen these people. They don't often advertise themselves. but they are legion. I, and many I care about (including scared women in the sitatutions I described above) have had the privilege of seeing many such people in action. compassionate, caring people.. not the "anti-choice monsters" those politically opposed to them may try to paint them as.
As for the S.D. legislation, I'm not sure whether or not it was the wisest move at this time. But in it's desire to challenge the courts to return abortion legislation to the states (where it was before the SCOTUS snatched in away via Roe v Wade) I agree that this challenge needs to be made at some point. Of course, the outcome will NOT be a ban of abortions throughout the country, but in a variety of policies decided by the people of the individual states.
South Dakota has shown itself to be an insular state and its leaders have shown themselves to be insular people. They may represent the positions of those who elected them but they do not respect the rights of the minority. And in so doing, they are tyrranical.
Their position, ironically, is not supported by the "Right to Life" movement because for them, it comes too soon. Bush has not yet packed the Supreme Court as fully with right wing ideologues as he wants to and the isue of Roe v Wade is still too close to call on the court.
Expect that this law will be overturned but that Roe v Wade will be eroded in the process.
