Who still believes the mental health profession is 100% legit?

Question:
If you take into consideration all the REAL controversy on whether or not psychiatrists are quacks, how many people are gullible enough to still trust them today? Do you know that the APA is in bed with the drug companies? In a recent study it was discovered that 100% of all the shrinks were collecting big money from drug firms. The study was all about if there is a conflict of interest between "doctors" (and I use that term loosely) and drug firms paying bribes to shrinks to prescribe medications to patients. Big surprise, all the shrinks in the study decided there was no conflict of interest and now the APA is in a pot of boiling oil not water because of it.
If you ask me, modern day psychiatry is nothing more then a con not "real medicine". Don't be stupid enough for fall for your local neighborhood shrink dinky

Answers:
Not me. To me it's a fake profession where people tell you what THEY think is wrong with you.

I think there has been alot of progress with Downs and Schitzophrenia, which are real. But as far as counseling because you have a "depression" problem, has got to be made up as they go along.

of course there are bad apples. there may be many of them. but i believe that there are honest ones out there that really do help people. i know it may sound silly to point out a TV personality, but i really think Dr. Phil helps people. and he rearely perscribes people with things.

I do.and so do I.

Big surprise - your family physician and hospital doctors most likely accept drug kickbacks.

Considering that you cannot even cite the name of the "recent study" I would say the biggest quack around here is you.

I know a child psychiatrist who has the most dysfunctional family you can imagine. It's hard for me to believe that he can charge a lot of money to give advice to other people, but he does.

Sill believe? I never did believe. Never trust any body in a medical field.

Unfortunately, the cure is only as good as the doctor and they are just "people" too. Of course people can be greedy, out for themselves, and not caring. But..there are GOOD Drs.,too. Check on other patients they have and get referrals from people you trust. lol

The same people who believe that SHOCK TREATMENT is an effective way of treating mental patients

What is NORMAL psychology compared to ABNORMAL psychology?

And who is arrogant enough or habve enough power to set the standard?

Are you Scientist? Cause you sound like Tom Cruise's spokesperson.

I'm glad there are people like you out there, because I was beginning to think I was the only one not buying into it. Of course, being raised Scientologist coloured my views on it somewhat. But I can't tell you how many times I've been 'prescribed' something, and likewise how many times I've not taken what they've given me. I beleive I'm better for being psych med free. Doctors don't know enough about the frontal lobe, much less the brain in general, to be able to try and 'fix' any perceived 'problems.'

well if we believe your theory then we should take it a step further and say medical doctors are in with the drug firms as well and the drug firms are liars and medicine is merely a placebo and we should all stay home and die from depression or medical diseases. would that make you feel better? by the way what if you needed blood? would you like people to believe that's it's just a scam and not donate any to you?

I believe everyone has personality characteristics, some worse than others, and those personalities are just now getting the attention with medication and publicity they never had before. You have to admit that before it was always taboo to talk about the mental health field and even movies went about it in extremely different ways. I have worked in neuropsychology for many years and I don't agree with you about quackery. I believe medications are needed in today's world and I thank the Lord for giving us the ability to create the treatments which counteract negative society developments. Best wishes =)

this is just the tip of the iceburg
