In workouts, how heavy should I lift?

Question:
I am a big fella at 222. I'm not wanting to be fit, I want to be big. I have a large frame. My genetics are great, I just don't know how to workout. I realize if I want to burn fat, cardio is the way to go, but Ineed a workout regement tailored to me.

Answers:
There are different thoughts on how heavy you should lift; however, the one that I've always gone with is you lift whatever you can lift for 8-10 reps. If you're lifting more than that, you're going too light, and if you're lifting less, you're going too heavy. Do each set three times, and try to go a little heavier each time. Don't forget legs! Lots of times people concentrate on arms and chest.but legs are very important.

good luck!

Other Answers:
You need to do it by starting with lighter weight that you can handle. For your size and strength unknown to us, say, for bench press, try 40 kilos first with a spotter (there is still a possibility you cannot handle this light) then add a little more each time as time goes by, 5 kilos each time.

Since the question is very general, we have to go to the gym together and work that out.

If you want to be big..like those fluffy guys in weightlifting competitions.do lots and lots of reps with moderate weight very slowly so that it burns. (lots meaning 12-20 reps per set..and do lots of sets.4-8 sets).

If you want to build strength but want to remain relatively tight to your frame with an athletic build then do less reps 6-8 reps per set and do less sets.3-4. But do more weight.

If you work out every day (faster results) remember not to mix your muscle groups. Give your muscles some off time to recover. If you work out 3 times a week then you can pretty much work everything all in one workout.

In workouts i usually go with the weigh as you go method. You weigh our self one week. The next week you write down how may pounds youve lifted and then you add about 10 more pound on to your routine. it might seem confusing but you should try it.
