To give directions to men as to where the cookie is located.

lol

it's sexy. simple as that.

It looks sexy when they wear low-rise.

The movie wedding crashers said it's a road map to their ***.

I think it looks stupid, it just distracts me from checking out her booty. It's like looking at a Ferrari parked next to a wall with a bunch of graffiti.

They are cute and pretty until they are giving birth. tats on the lower back interfer with epideral and u can't have one. I dunno y iv heard it from several ppl one being a nurse

I got a tattoo on my lower back for really one reason. When I am much older, it is not an area that many people will see. My tattoo is going to look faded and stretched out at some point, if I am luck enough to live that long. Why would I want to be 70 and have that for everyone to look at? I don't know many 70 year olds that show off their lower backs. Senior citizens usually don't wear low rise jeans, or short shirts or bikinis.or do they? :)

I have a tattoo on my right hip(lower back)of a butterfly and I did it because I turned 18 and I could. Simple as that. And, I put it high enough so you could see it when I wore a swim suit! I mean, why get a tattoo if no one can see it?

Sometimes, there aren't explanations that you or I understand. There's a guy I know that got two DOLPHINS swimming in a circle on his lower back. Why? Heck, if I know! Do I care and should I judge? No. I mean, when you think about it he's a GUY! But, it's art and it's an expression, but if you don't agree, hey that's okay too! :)

And, just so it's clear, a tattoo on the lower back DOES NOT interfere with an epidural. My mother has been an OB nurse for 12 years and has seen plenty of epidurals of women with tattoos on their lower backs. It's an urban legend. The needle would go through the epidermis, dermis and into the areas where the anesthesia is infiltrated without difficulty. But, I'm sure there's some doctors that would refuse and say there are complications with the procedure. Oh, and unless a woman gains a lot of weight in her back, her back shouldn't stretch out when she's pregnant so her tattoo should be okay as far as that goes.
Bellybutton tattoos now that is a whole nother story! ;)
