Is there help for people with conpulsive disorders? and Obsesive?

Question:
Some bad habits to embarising to mention.

Answers:
I have this.. And it's hard at times.. My family doesnt understand what casues it to happen, so I dont tell them a lot of it..

Sit down.. Make a list of the things that you Obsesive about.. And make a list why you feel this needs to be done..

Keep adding to the list as you go.. When you are done making a list, read it over again out loud.. (Alone)

List should be kinda like this..

*Check doors of house to make sure they are locked! I check them 5 times before I go to bed.. Why do I need to check them so many times.. I feel that I forget that they are locked, or that I need to make sure I feel safe when I am sleeping.. How can I help check the doors less.

I made a list to check off all the things that I do in a day. And make it so I can check my list when I head to bed. After I have checked my list off, and got in bed, I read my list, to make sure that I remember I did them, and that they are done.. Then I put the list down and go to sleep.. During the night if I wake up worrying about something, I read my list..

This has helped me over come many things that I do, and or have done in the past..

OCD is very treatable and manageable. I suggest you go to see a psychiatrist. There are many therapies available that are highly successful.

therapy tends to be everyones first answer. however there are all sorts of 12 step programs concerning everything from ocd to drug addiction to gambling, smoking, drinking, over eating. plus 12th step programs ask for no money in return and are completly anonymous.

Absolutely. The first thing you need to do is see a mental health professional and ask to be diagnoses. There are very simple and easy questions you will be asked. There is no need for embarrassmet, obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) is very common and very treatable. There are both medical and talk therapies, a combination usually having the best results. Go to a mental health professional and make sure you have both options: drugs and talk therapy.

you can treat it with meds or visit a specialist

Yes, of course there is help. It involves therapy with a counselor, generally. The sessions are confidential, so, anything you would discuss with your counselor(s) could not be repeated to anyone else. Maybe it would not be quite as embarrassing for you if you are sure your discussions will not be shared with anyone else? Remember that you are certainly NOT alone. OCD problems are fairly common difficulties. Best luck :-)

yes, of course..there is help for everything and there are tons of people out there like you.

Give it a chance and seek professional help, you will find you are not alone and can be helped.

YES!!

Response-prevention therapy, a form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the only empirically supported therapy. No other treatment (not medications or any other type of talk therapy) is optimal. The outcome rates for RPT are extremely good, some where between 70 to 80% effective. See any of the work by Edna Foa, Ph.D. She is the foremost authority on OCD.

I have suffered Obsessive Compulsive disorder since I was 13 years of age. Now I am 22 and still have the condition but through the help of a psychiatrist and medication I have slowly overcome it. I used to suffer from obsessive irrational thoughts, but once you realise and rationalise you feel 100% better. Also try and set some time each week for a relaxation session, Good Luck & God Bless you!

Yes. Counseling, meds, behavior modification.there are lots of different kinds of help.
