Can having protein powder make you not lose weight?

Question:
I have been working out for 12 weeks at least 5x a day. I run for 45 minutes 5x a week and strength training and I have not lost a pound. Every morning I mix protein powder with juice or something can this be causing it. I eat at least 1600 calories a day. I want to lose 30 lbs by August. I'm just getting furstrated.

Answers:
You may be just replacing the weight you are losing with muscle weight. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat. Another thing, to lose weight, you have to burn more calories working out than you do eating. Protein powder itself should not be causing you to not lose weight. Try mixing it with water instead of juice. Wait a few hours before eating after you've taken the juice. Many people will take the shake, or even a dietary shake, and then eat right after. It defeats the purpose of losing weight because you've just consumed two meals. Try not to work out so much, either. Your body needs time to heal itself. Five times a day might be a little extensive. Cardio should come after weight training, for maximum results. I hope this helped.

Yes! Of course, protein powder make you gain weight. Most people drink protein to gain weight.

yes.. Protein powder is made to put on weight.. usually muscle mass.. but not always..

I'm not too sure if it helps with weight loss, but my brothers use protein powders to gain lean muscle. Muscle is heavier than fat. It could be that you're replacing fat with muscle. You may be losing inches more than pounds. Do your clothes fit differently?

yes you can use the protien powder in place of a meal if you wish or stop taking it and make sure your diet contains plenty of protien another thing to rember is that muscle ways more than fat so i woul suggest mesuring your waste instead of using a scale

Chances are that you are gaining muscle while you are losing fat, which isn't going to decrease your total pounds. If the scale is all you are worried about, then yes, the protein could have a lot to do with it not budging.

Is your body changing? Are clothes fitting better? You have to determine what matters more to you: the number on the scale, or the numbers of inches lost.

Also consider this, are you including the calories in the protein powder and the juice you are drinking in that 1600 calories per day?

You may not be losing pounds, but you should be losing inches. Muscle weighs more than fat so your weight can stay the same or actually go up while your measurements go down.

Protein powder will not make you gain weight, but you must count the calories as part of your daily total. Also, you may not be feeding your body enough calories for your exercise plan. If this isn't a typo and you work out 5x per day, your body may be in "starvation mode" causing a rapid decrease in your metabolism.

Hidden calories could also be a problem. Make sure you are adding everything that enters your body: drinks, snacks, meals, supplements, etc.. Keep a journal for a few days and you might find that you are eating more calories than you think.

Hope this helps!

Protien powder is used for muscle building/gain weight. If you want to lose weight you should take a different approach. However it is important to have plenty of protien to gain muscle when weight training. Usually 2/3 of your body weight is the amount of protien grams needed per day.
