Should we stop an exercise when the muscles burn?

Question:
I'm told by my trainer that exercising beyond the point of muscles burning has no beneficial effect.

Answers:
Working your muscles until they hurt means they are working hard, and will repair themselves stronger than they originally were.

However, working them until you can't stand anymore means you'll be more sore the next day, and wont be able to work as hard. There's a fine line.

What sort of exercise are you talking about?

Other Answers:
You should exercise until a burning sensation in your muscles occurs. But if the pain becomes unbearable, then you should definitely stop.

You should continue exercise until it becomes very difficult to properly control and properly execute the exercise you're performing. A lot of people are pretty convinced that very fast reps are going to make a big difference. But if you are concentrating on the muscle and doing a nice full rep, you'll be better off. As far as the burning, continue until it is unbearable or until you become too shakey (that's when you lose control of the exercise on the particular muscle), you want to work the muscle, not damage it or hurt yourself trying to go further than your body will let you go at the time. Don't be discouraged if you cannot lift or go as far as you'd like, you just need to slowly work your way up.
