you should be fine. If you same color filling, then you can drink hot right away.
If you have amalgam fillings, (silver filling) the thermal conductivity is faster than your normal tooth structure, therefore you may experience some sensitivity right away. If your pulp is still healthy and alive, your pulp will stimulate secondary dentin inside the pulp celing then you will experience less and less sensitive overtime.
Wait an hour before eating and drinking is a good idea. because you may numb anyway and you may not be able to control your lips ( either upper or lower).
Amalgam need time to be harden and composite doesn't.
Water can harden amalgam quick but it will make amalgam more brittle than it suppose to be. So wait an hour is about right.

yes you can eat and drink..mostly the reason for waiting after getting dental work done is because you were numbed up for the procedure and may bite your toungue or lip without realizing it. exceptions are if your had an extraction or something cemented on (like a crown) where the cement needs time to set. not for a filling though..
