What's the most effective at-home exercise machine?

Question:
i was thinking about the bowflex Treadclimber, it's like an elliptical and treadmill, I'm almost sure you've seen the commercial. i viewed the info and what i like about it is that's it's low impact and it "burns more calories" than either of those machines.
i want a machine that's effective, low impact on the joints and the wallet. what do you think?
p.s.
i hate going to gyms (all those sweaty germs,EEEWWW!) and personal trainers are out of the question. i'm also aware of dieting and exercising 3x's a week w/weights too, and drinking plenty of water.

Answers:
That's a good choice, but the machine you like and use is the most effective; for me it's a treadmill. You can buy machines used.I agree, it beats the gym and you can just get up and get going. Works for me.

A while ago, people swore by the ski machines, but they are a bit hard to use. So they fell in disfavor. But they do give you low impact and use the upper arms, as well.

Many people swear by those elliptical climbers and they do take up a bit less space than a treadmill.

But overall, a treadmill is best. You can walk, run, and some even do hill programs. Weight bearing exercise is best, and walking is natural motion.

If you have stairs just climb them for exercise.

I have not seen the infomercials for that but honestly if you're looking to burn fat and lose pounds a traditional treadmill is the way to go. Ellipticals only burn calories and tone. It's better lose pounds first then tone.if not you're just building muscle on top of fat. If you need to reduce impact from runnning on a treadmill.invest in a really good pair of running shoes.Nike Shocks are the best!

An exercise ball and some dumbbells. Resistance exercises with weights are far superior to any "cardio" type machine if you want to get in good shape. Save your money on the exercise machine and instead try taking up jogging or riding a bicycle in the beautiful sunny outdoors which will help your mental health at the same time. You can easily perform a full body workout just using an exercise ball and some dumbbells. I recommend the following exercises for each of your major bodyparts: one-arm bent over row (mid back), deadlifts (lower back), incline dumbbell press on exercise ball (upper chest), flat dumbbell flys on exercise ball (mid and lower chest), squats with exercise ball behind you on the wall (upper legs), calf raises on edge of a stair (calves of course), dumbbell overhead press (shoulders), shrugs (traps), dumbbell curls (biceps), behind neck presses (triceps), crunches and reverse crunches (upper and lower abs). I recommend starting out with a full body routine consisting of 1 exercise per bodypart for 12-15 reps then after a week or two when your tendons and ligaments are ready change this to 2 sets per bodypart of 8-12 reps. Keep in mind that 8-12 reps means that you can do no more than 12 reps, but no less than 8. Use a weight that will cause you to fail somewhere in this range. Also, control the weight at all times, and always lower under complete control and perform each rep using a full range of motion just short of lockout to protect your joints. I recommend 3-4 days of week of this workout with a couple of days of cardio and a healthy diet to provide the right foods to rebuild and maintain your gains. Good luck.

DONT USE MACHINES!!
Just do Yoga, it relaxes, heals, and also actually exercises you!

total gym is great!
