Stay away from cold fluids if you can. Though hydration is key. Not only does the heat from the green tea help to open restrictions in the blood flow and release the muscles as it passes, it also has a ton of immunity properties. In addition, try to stay away from any dairy products as they will tend to irritate your throat and cause increased buildup in your throat.
I swear - if you gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times a day, your throat will feel better. It doesn't taste good, but it works, it's cheep, it's around the house, and it works!
