Your look shouldn't stop with eyes. It's cheeks, lips and skin. I'm a milk chocolate complexion with dark brown eyes, and I normally use browns/neutrals. depends on what you skin and hair color are. I use nothing on my eyes, just a little gold on the lids, brown eye liner and black mascara. Looks good!

I personally have darker brown eyes too, and I use purple eyeshadows and other shades thereof. Do not use purple eyeshadows with pink tones though, like lilacs, it will make you look like you have an eye infection, or are sick. Purple to dark purple eyeliners are good too, and I personally use black mascara. I would check out a local Lancome counter at a big department store, they have some great eyeshadows. A NYC makeup artist from Lancome did my face once, and he used Peep, Snap, Spectra, and Optic eyeshadows on me, and it looked great! And if you have a day where you're looking particularly bloodshot, use navy blue liquid eyeliner, it counteracts the red and brings out the whites of your eyes, a very good thing. Oh, I almost forgot, I use sheer sherbet green and olive green eyeshadows as well, and silvers/greys are also favorites of mine. Just experiment, or ask a professional for their suggestions, just don't let them push their products onto you. I used to work in a store with professional makeup-selling people, and boy can they get pushy! I recommended Lancome because their products are worth what you pay for them and they have big selections to choose from, Clinique, on the other hand, does not.
