FORGET the steroids. Remember that doctors prescribe drugs that aren't at all necessary. I know many doctors. They are paid a percentage to prescribe certain drugs! If drugs affect personality, NOT healthy. My dad hurt his shoulder years back and what he did was soak in 'epson salts' (pored into the bath,) each night before bed. Try that, Epson Salts can be purchased at the local drug store. If you can't find that, soak in water and Bicarbonate soda (baking soda.) Also, 'St. John's Wort' to relax the nerves, all natural! Good Luck but keep away from the steroids!
ice it twice. trust me. I know some professional athletes. you have to ice it until it hurts. then, take some anti-inflamitories and do lots of physical therapy. roids are OK if you don't overuse them. good luck.
My suggestion would be to contact The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine..they would be able to resolvbe the issue for you without using steroids and be just as effective if not more, without the side effects.

I don't think steroids are good things for the treatment of anything. But he is the doctor and he knows better than anyone what to do. Ask your dad to visit any other doctor so that he can get better treatment.
You can take painkillers like: Mobic, Celebrex, Diclofenac Sodium; but after asking your doctor.
Moreover, steroids can cause side effects such as weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes and increased risk of thin bones later in life.
Naprosyn, motrin, and aspirin are all examples of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (Nsaids). Less side effects but not as effective.

When I hurt my back, my chiropratcor was able to fix me (through extensive treatment and physical therapy) without using streoids, which I would have had to use if the therapy didn't help. My first advice, go see a good chirpractor. Second, I agree with the Epsom Salt. Thirdly, he needs to take it easy for a while. And lastly, find out what type of therapy/excercises he can do to help strengthen the muscles surround the injured area to prevent this from reoccuring.
