is depression curable?

Question:

Answers:
Dear Lady .

It probably is curable.

Some depression is best improved by the newer medications.

Often, it is lifestyle changes that are needed.

And changes in one's beliefs.
Beliefs that cause misery can actually be the main source of depression.

Lifestyle changes might include . much better eating habits, wearing clothes that make you feel good, making exercise part of your life and not just an "add-on", and putting effort into being with people whom YOU find inspiring and good for you.

So sometimes getting out of depression can be a complicated thing. But you can do it.

Other Answers:
Yep and there is lots of help avaible out there, open you phone book.

i don't think it's curable, but there are so many things you can take to alleviate the issues that come along with it. some people take the meds and feel tons better.

yes

yes and there is certain medications for it as well

yeap, lifestyle change or medication, the first is the better choice. Good Luck and hey, your not alone millions are depressed.

Depression really isn't a disease you can cure. Medications can aid in the biological factors while therapy is good for some of the psychological issues. Depression isn't cured as much as it is treated. After time, some people no longer require treatment, for others (like a close friend) it will probably be life time. I also suffer from depression, so I know what you are going through. I have found that meditating and yoga are great for relaxing and cheering me up, while tae kwon do is excellent for my stress. You can't really cure depression, sadly. But remember, you control your depression, it does NOT control you!

Not curable, but treatable. You have to take medication, and they may have to experiment some to get the right medication for you personally. People respond differently.

Your problem is physical, not psychological

Yes, it is. I strongly suggest seeing a therapist that can treat you both chemically and mentally. True depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain.

YES!There is Healing for this.Ask your doctor for medicine and I'll pray for your healing and joy in your life!God Bless!

yes go to your doctor they can help you.

yes i have been on meds for 20 years .you have to go and get help .life is worth liveing.so please go and get help.

it's funny how everyone assumes you are depressed when you are most likely just curious. however if you are sad alot, don't think of yourself as depressed. too many people call themselves depressed and their sadness grows on them. I was on Prozac for a year and I went off it as soon as I got dumped (bad idea) but I am doing alot better these past few months. I find having a goal helps. Exercise helps alot. Also prayer helps me.

girllllllllll i hope there is ..cuase I'm tired of taking all these meds that do not do nothing..i quess when we are really happy in life and happy about what we do then maybe ill depression will subside. but if we get..not happy ..ooops there it goes again good luck lady and remember your not alone.

experience

no but you can lessen it with diet.

The symptoms of depression can go into complete remession but if there's a biological cause then the chemical imbalance in your body is still present. In other words, if one of the symptoms of your depression was lack of interest in doing the things yo usually enjoy (and by you I just mean any person who is depressed not neccessarily that you are depressed) but now since the symptoms are gone you enjoy doing things again then that is an example of a symptom of depression that is no longer bothering you.

The symptoms are curable, the underlying chemical imbalance is generally not curable.

I think it's more treatable than curable by learning new coping skills and taking medications (depends on severity or seeing psychiatrist or not). and I don't think medication itself does not work neither. Going to counsellor could help and learn the way to deal with depression. It is difficult to change the way we are. also Whatever you have experienced in your life up to now makes who you are. I think it is more of how you see things and learn new ways to deal with depression or events that makes you depressed. and also your willingness to learn new ways of coping is important as well. if you don't have the will, you remains in circle. It's almost like addiction. you have to admit that you have addiction problem, you decide either you want to get treatment or not. so when you recognize that you have depression, you are the only one can decide what you want to do about it. does it make sense.?

not realy

Yes, if you find out the cause. Depression is the biggest cause of referrals to doctors in the UK. They can offer antidepressants to cover the symptoms till it passes (a bit like taking paracetomol for headaches), but they don't treat the cause. You'll probably need specialist help to deal with it successfully, but it can be done.
Like colds & flu, there are lots of dfferent types of depression. An analyst will spend hours working on it asking when it started, where, how long does it last, are there particlar triggers, what are the exact symptoms etc. so it may take a few months or even years, but don't give up hope. One final thing, some meds & even supposed experts will be unhelpful. Just find somebody else instead. Meantime, if nobody's helping, try St John's Wort (Hypericin) from your local health store (careful as it can counteract some medicines & contraceptives), and if you're feeling lethargic, some of the food colourings known to make kids hyperactive will at least get you going again, though you may get a bit ratty with people as a result.
Good luck!
