have severe case of endometriosis. been told need hysterectomy.no insurance. any advice?

Question:

Answers:
Try linking up with your local women's feminine health clinics. They are private and state funded to provide feminine health care to those on limited incomes or who need to keep their feminine health secret from spouses, insurance co, family etc. There are some income guidelines, but they have the ability to set up credit friendly payment plans.

Their main goal is to keep women healthy and pain free and should be sympathetic to your cause. Be advised that hysterectomies arent a total cure all for endo. They could discuss some of the other options with you as well. Good luck

Hysterectomy is not a cure for Endometriosis. Any disease left behind by the surgeon (whether by design because he or she 'couldn't get it all' or accident because they don't recognize the disease in all manifestations) will continue to thrive and cause pain and symptoms. It does not matter if the ovaries are removed or if HRT is withheld; Endo produces its own estrogen-synthesizing enzyme known as aromatase. Thus, it enables it's own vicious life cycle and sustains the disease process. You would be better off getting all disease truly excised from all locations at a specialty center like the CEC (www.centerforendo.com). As far as not having insurance, you can work out payment plans with the hospital or try to obtain state insurance (i.e., Medicare/Medicaid). As a self pay patient, you will likely also be eligible for what's known as an indigent discount from the docs and hospitals involved. You can also forgo surgery altogether and either try to get enrolled in a clinical trial for free care (www.centerwatch.com) and/or obtain prescription medical therapy at low or no cost through a patient assistance program (all pharma companies have this).

I do strongly encourage, however, that you seek counsel of a true specialist such as at the center I posted above. Why waste all the time, money and effort only to realize the hyst did nothing for you because it was about removing organs and not disease.

Good luck with whatever choice you make and I hope you feel better.

GET A SECOND OPINION! A hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis.

May I suggest to you Ameri Plan's discount benefits program. They do not have any restrictions on ongoing conditions and you can start saving immediately. There is a hospital advocacy program that assigns you a personal advocate to negotiate with doctors on your medical bills.

The plan also includes savings on dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic care. I'd check them out. I'm so proud to be with them. I know I shouldn't advertise, but your need sounds great. Let me know if you have any questions. wlakin@ameriplan.net

We are currently running a promotion for just the dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic plan where you can try it out for 3 months for $23 total. This is a great service. You should check it out!
