Just drink an 8oz. glass of water whenever you're thirsty and you'll be fine. Drink more when working out or on hot days.
Here is how you really figure out how much water you are supposed to have: each glass contains 8 oz. Now say if the body weight is 120 lbs. You would have to divide that by 8 to get exactly how many. So the answer becomes 15.(See equation to bottom). I need 15 glasses of water to equal my body weight. Also ask your doctor too, many a times the water consumption is greater or lesser depending on how much water content your body already has. Diabetics or obese persons are some for example who require water but at varied levels because many a times their body is more water then fat so the amount of consumptoin to these various people can vary under doctors orders. Also the more active you are the more water you might be intailed to drink at different times of the day. And water is a great source for cleasing the system of harmful bacterias in the bladder and intestinal tract.

Your average weight divided by 8ounces of water per glass needed=Average amount required per day minus your BM index if adjusted. And Yes 8oz of water is generally not the real amount for water consumption but when asked by a general doctor how much a person is told to drink daily, some will say it is based on size and weight. Just my opinion since this is really what was given to me. Only you know what is best for you and when you should drink. Another thing to remember is other liquids do not hydrate the body better than water considering the content of sugar that is often found in them. Majority of these other drinks(sports drinks included) don't always contain the proper electrolytes to rehydrate the body right away. That is saying that no matter how much you drink, like that on a hot day, you can be a sports nut or otherwise and end up overheated. That is mainly why in most case, when a person later goes to a hospital, the staff will administer saline IV's which contain just the proper dose. but even they dont really know all the time what works since it is basically when the body shows the urine comes clear and no other factors of damage have been evident. I am not a medical student but I learned from general patience and well being of learning to take care of myself. Those who dont drink enough water can produce problems with all sort of areas relating to the digestive tract. Also the lack of water can also cause low oxygen to the brain since the flow of blood can become too thick, water is a natural thinner.
Just drink when you're thirsty. That whole 8 glasses thing is a myth (And look at how many people buy into it!!)
