Total Vaginal Hysterectomy
This procedure is the same as in the TAH, performed vaginally
Acronym: TVH
Description of procedure: The doctor removes the uterus and cervix through a cut in the vagina. As with the TAH the top of the vagina is repaired by being sewn to form the vaginal cuff.
Indications/contra-indications. This is usually the surgery of choice if you have prolapse, if there is no possibility of cancer, if your uterus is not too enlarged and if you've delivered vaginally. This type of surgery is not recommended when the surgeon needs to have space to look around, if there is danger of cancer cells or of endo spreading, if you have not delivered vaginally or if your uterus is enlarged beyond a certain size. This surgery can entail additional bleeding. Due to the lack of the presence of an incision, it is easy to forget you've just had major surgery and run the risk of thinking that they are further ahead in their recovery.
Initial Recovery: Expect 6 to 8 weeks of recovery, with lifting and straining restrictions for this whole period. It is also normal to expect to have a restriction on intercourse for the whole of the initial recovery period.
Variations on a theme: It is also possible that your doctor will may opt to perform a Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH). If that is the case, the cervix is still removed.
If you are a young woman,I would explore other options of healing before undergoing a total hysterectomy, its a terrible operation, and you will have to go through a surgical menopause and be on hormone replacement for the rest of your life!As with any surgery there will be some pain,or discomfort. discuss your concerns with your doctors.Im sorry I dont have a personal experience with this. Its unimaginable the emotional, physisical and physchological devestation this procedure would have on a woman.

what is that
For the people that don't know a vaginal hysterectomy.
Vaginal hysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterus is removed through the vagina. One or both ovaries and fallopian tubes may be removed during the procedure, as well. A vaginal approach may be chosen if the uterus is not greatly enlarged, and if the condition prompting the surgery is benign and limited to the uterus. Studies have shown that vaginal hysterectomy is associated with fewer complications, a shorter length of hospitalization, and faster recovery than removal of the uterus through an abdominal incision (abdominal hysterectomy).

I've never had it but hopefully this will help you out a little bit.
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER THE SURGERY? — You will be given pain medicine as needed. Most women stay one or two nights in the hospital following vaginal hysterectomy. You will be encouraged to resume normal daily activities as quickly as is comfortable. Regaining mobility is particularly important as it helps to prevent complications, such as blood clots, pneumonia, and gas pains.
Walking and stair climbing are encouraged and tub baths or showers are permitted. Driving should be avoided until full mobility returns and narcotic pain relievers are no longer required. You may return to work as soon as you have sufficient stamina and mobility.
To minimize stress on the healing tissues, you'll be asked to avoid lifting more than 20 pounds for four to six weeks after surgery. Vaginal intercourse is also discouraged during this time to allow complete healing.
You will be asked to call your doctor if you experience an increase in pain, persistent nausea or vomiting, bleeding heavier than a menstrual period, or any signs or symptoms of infection.
