My thumbnails on my hands grow in waves, sort of ridged. What is this and why does it happen?

Question:
Since I was small the nails on each of my thumbs only (strangly enough not on any other nails) grow in waves or ridged. There is no pain or cracking or anything. What is this and why does it happen.

Answers:
You either have a rare genetic defect or you have a fungal infection in the nailbeds. Check with your dermatologist.
