I get my hair cut by the owner of the hair salon. I hear that you don't tip business owners. True?

When my mother was in the salon business it was said that it was insulting to offer a salon owner a tip. As a salon owner and stylist, I do accept them. Those who tip extravagantly get special attention. I'm not ashamed to admit it. The quality of my work is the same tip or no tip. I have always sincerely told those who don't tip or can't afford to tip <when they mention it> that if I want more money from them, I'll raise my prices.
