Good one!
No.
Unless they do, of course.
Not if their patient has genital warts!
In my opinion, most gynecologists do not keep up with advances in their field. They are uninformed about certain conditions that affect many women, and can do more harm than good when they don't know these things!
For women with vaginismus (tightening of the pelvic floor muscles upon penetration), on average, they see 4-5 doctors/medical professionals before finally being diagnosed with vaginismus. And I know women with other disorders (scar tissue inside, etc.) who were in pain for years before the doctor finally was able to resolve it.
Also, I think doctors in general are more apt to prescribe pharmaceuticals or surgery rather than try a natural approach. For example, they tend to prescribe medications for incontinence, or women are told they just have to live with it when they could just go to a physical therapist and overcome incontinence (or any other kind of pelvic floor disorder).
P.S. funny joke
YES!!
You my friend, are off the hook, off I tell you!
WE expect a lot from our doctors. A gynecologist is supposed to be a person who specializes in women's reproductive health. They are not "supposed" to be a primary care provider which they have become. So yes they should but are you seeing your gyn for reproductive issues? or what?
Are you willing to pay more for her to study alternative medicine?
As most gyneacologists tend to be men the answer is a resounding yes. Men DO have tunnel vision. This dates back to prehestoric caveman time when man was born the hunter and provider while woman was the nurturer and defender of the family. The male needed tunnel vision to hone in on his prey and keep focussed while the woman had and still does a wider vision range to be able to watch for offspring. This has transgressed throughout the years where men now tend to have tunnel vision for rather more recreational passtimes such as ogling women and watching sport, whereas women still have the "eyes in the back of the head" syndrome for watching both the male and the young..X-P (BTW This is actually genuine .saw it on some science programme)
The psychiatrist I work with has a gynecologist girlfriend. She made a speculum (you know, the "duck") that has a light built in. He calls it the "Tunnel of Love".
