For qualifications, I would strongly suggest seeking a licensed psychologist or a MSW (Masters in Social Work) who is trained in therapy.
It will be tedious and hard work to find a good therapist. But, the hard work will pay off in the long run with you being able to cope with life and getting rid of the depression.
Some things to ask a potential therapist:
1. What school of thought do you subscribe to?
2. Are you covered by my insurance plan?
3. Do your patients normally resolve their problems? Ask for a percentage. If lots just leave, avoid this person.
4. How do you provide therapy? Single person sessions are more expensive than group therapy. Some therpists will want you to start with one-on-one, and then move to group therapy.
5. How do you perform the diagnosis to actually verify that I am suffering from depression? (You might think its depression, but you should make sure a qualified, trained professional actually thinks it is, too. Don't just let them assume you diagnosed yourself correctly).
Ask around your area for good therpists. Ask your friends, your pastor, etc. The more input you have, the better you will be able to find a person to help you treat your problem.

Go to your family Dr. ask for a referral to a psychitrist. They will evaluate you and place you on medication that will help with your depression. Just remember, It takes 3-4 weeks before the medication starts to fully work.

Everyone is depressed at one time or another. If you're unhappy, do something that makes you happy--don't depend on others to make you happy; you must do that yourself. If you are worried, remember this saying: Worry is just the misuse of imagination. If your depression lasts longer than two weeks, you should see your general practitioner who may prescribe an antidepressant or refer you to a psychologist.
