There is no cure at all for either type of diabetes. There is only management of the disease.
Depends how advanced your disease is. Type 2 diabetes is almost entirely an issue of eating food you should not. Most type 2 diabetics can completely prevent all negative effects of the diease by changing what they eat. If it's very advanced, even that won't work and you need more aggressive methods (or you will die..cough).
But, is there any treatment that will roll back the clock and allow you to eat whatever you want or any treatment that you can be on and still eat foods that cause diabetes. Absolutely not. Failure to control your diabetes and follow your doctors guidelines will kill you..slow, and painful. But, it doesn't have to be that way.
Soon to be.
Diabetic disease is cosed by your body not producing enough stomach acids to break food down to sugars. So the cure would need to either be a artificial body part to replace the failing one or using a cure that is under research. Only problem is most places do not qualify you for a transplant.
you can grow out of having the need for medicine and insulin, by eating right for your body, and making sure to get plenty of exercise. you should go to a nutritionist they can help you learn what you should and shouldn't eat to better control your blood sugar. i went to one and i eat 6 small meals a day so that my sugar levels stay level instead of rising and falling, and i make sure to get 30 minutes of exercise about 4 times a week, and you would not believe the difference it has made for me. i take medicine, but do not yet have to take shots.
Type II diabetes is one of those things where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or in this case treatment. Basically, once you have been diagnosed, you will always have it. The only thing that varies is your level of control, good or bad.
But you can take comfort in the fact that rich, fat white men are taking millions away from research to cure Type I diabetes, which has a far greater potential for someday being cured.
As you may or may not know there are 2 types of Diabetes:
- Type 1 or Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM), which is an Autoimmune disease.
- Type 2 DM or Non Insulin Dependent DM (NIDDM) which has a Hereditary factor (Hystocompatibility Leukocyte Antigen DR3/DR4) and can also be brought on by Obesity and certain Medications.
The problem in Type 2 DM/NIDDM is Insulin Resistance. The cells in the body become resistant to Insulin and its effects. There's also the case that the Pancreas (organ that produces Insulin) decreases it's Insulin production.
Usually the Meds. that one prescribes to Type 2 Diabetics do two things:
1- Increse Insulin production by the Pancreas
2- Increse the body's sensitivity to Insulin and its effects
One also indicates to loose weight as it will decrease the body's resistance to Insulin and also exercise (it has the same effect) and the withdrawal of any medication that could be producing the increased levels of glucose (Steroids, hormone replacement therapy).
There is no definitive cure for either type of Diabetes, only treatment. If what is producing Type 2 DM is Obesity or Medications, by attenuating these factors the DM can be cured.
About 20% of Type 2 Diabetics will go on to become Insulin dependet.
It looks like it, but you can see for yourself at the link below.

in future people would be cured if they can get a pancreas-transplantation (not possible at this time), there are momentarely studies to see if its possible to transplant pancreas-islets, and that would possibly cure diabetics,
but this is future talk!!

No. No type of Diabetes has a cure. You can only control the symptoms of the disease.
