What causes high liver enzymes?
Question:
Answers:
Liver enzymes can elevate for MANY reasons. Alcohol/drug abuse, even over the counter drugs or prescription medications, are the main reasons but not the only reasons. Diseases such as Hepatitis or Cirrhosis can also cause this. But sometimes, believe it or not, diet can do it too. Anytime you assault your liver by constantly abusing it's function, it will get fatty deposits in it which can cause an elevation of your liver enzymes. There are an epidemic of people walking around with elevated liver enzymes. Some are truly sick with something and some are not.

I was going to say that you need to be tested for Hepatitis and Chirosis of the liver, but it sounds like your Dodctor will be testin for that soon. Diabetis is associtated with your pancreas not y9our liver.
If you take alot of pain medications that could be associated with the liver. Medications as simple as Tylenol reek havoc on the liver. The liver is a toxic filter if you will. It filters out all of toxins in your blood. I just cant believe that the Doctor is going to wait the 3 months to test you. If you do have hepatitis then he could be using that 3 months giving you Interferon thearpy to get you in to remission. I would ask to be tested sooner.

I am a nurse and have a sister with Hepatitis.
Your liver isn't functioning as it should. The main purpose of the liver is to "clean" the body/blood. Sadly to say, people who don't drink can be affected as well.there are 3 forms of Hepatitis and they are caused by various reasons. Change your diet as I'm sure your Dr. recommended when you found out about the Diabetis, drink plenty of water and try to stay active.try and make your body a healthier being.it's sad to say, but if you have any one of the 3 Hep infections, there isn't much you can do, other than follow your doctors advice. I wish you the best of luck.

Also, if you are taking large amounts of Tylenol or any related medication, that can cause problems w/ your liver as well.keep that in mind.
I was taking a drug for psoriasis and my liver enzymes went sky high. They suggested several reasons (nobody wanted to assume it was from the drug) one was gallstones (negative) one was hepatitis because I'd been on a cruise (negative) one was drinking (I'm not a big drinker) I had to stop taking the drug and eventually it came back to normal. There's also such a thing as fatty liver but I don't know much about that. Another thing they asked me about was over the counter weight loss products. Good luck!
