HELP!My teen eats cockroaches!!?

Question:
My son is 13 years old and listens to some really noisy music called heavy metal. We live in the suburbs so in the beginning it didnt seem strange to me that he was socialising seldom. One day I found like 20-30 dead cockroaces in an adidas shoe box under his bed.I asked him what he was doing wth the bugs and he told be that he was making a collection. Then I sighed. But this morning I saw him sucking one of those bugs in his room.I'm worried about him.Is it normal for a teenager to eat cockroaches?Should I let him go on doing that or take him to the councellor or what.Actually what's the norm??Cows and cockroaches are all animals and it's normal to consume cows but not bugs. And I can never let my son to be stigmatized by anyone as a sick teen!.On the other hand it still looks a bit weird to me and I'm afraid.

Answers:
I think your son has been hypnotized by the Mexican satanist klan "El Kocko Rocho".Beware!! They are extremely dangerous fanatics who listen to heavy metal bands like Sepultura and Shakira. They believe that satan(El Satanos) will ressurrect in the shape of a cockroach and conquer all of humanity(including the Pope) in order to spread evil and heavy metal all over the world.Your son is not just sucking cockroaches,it's a demonic ritual, when he does that,he gets in contact with the devil, and the devil sends him messages like:"go kill that/this person" or "go vote for Bush again" etc.You have to stop your son before it's too late!

Other Answers:
ew, no, it is definietly not normal for a person to be eating a cockroach!

What's a little protein. It won't hurt him any. If you think that there is possibly other issues at hand then take him to see a counsellor. Your son would not be and should not be stigmatized as it would only be you, him and the counsellor who knew he was seeing one. And all info your son divulges is private and confidential.

well you son needs help bring this to light right now cause if you don't he will never stop

Well he is doing his part to help pest/insect control. No it is not normal for a teen to eat cockroaches!! You cannot possibly be that dim can you? If you don't want your son to stigmatized as a "sick teen", why would you want to send him to a counselor? Are you more afraid of what people will say about him, or about you and your ability to raise your child. I wouldn't necessarily blame the music. That depends on what type of metal he was listening to because not all metal is bad. It could also have to do with the people he's currently hanging around with. Hey, for all you know, he could've been doing all this long before you found out. Cows and roaches are two different things. If you can't distinguish what's normal from what's abnormal, maybe you both need counseling because nothing about any of this seems normal to me. Of course, the kid needs help. The question is are you going to keep sugar coating it and hope it goes away or are you going to act an adult and a parent and do something about it? Whatever you decide to do is your choice.

I have two teenage sons, both completely opposite, and one with ADD, so I'm comfortable with asking questions on what's normal behavior. I'd pass up the "opinions" you'll find here and just give a call to your family doctor, or even just a professional from the yellow pages. They'll be confidential but give you clear answers, and you can ask more than one until you're comfortable. I guess since he wasn't with friends being "dared" to do it, but doing it by himself, I'd be worried, too. Good luck.

Seriously, is he missing a nutrient, mineral, etc?
Has he been diagnosed with pica?

YUCK! That is definitely not normal for anyone. You should be afraid. I hate to say this but, he needs help.
Hi, this is a friend of this writer. You may want to check and ask him if he is into satan worship with some friends of his. They believe that taking life from another living creature gives them extra life force. This is not good because he will be led into even more serious type of sacrifices. What he really needs is to talk to a pastor of a church that preaches the gospel. Find one and you will get the best help he could have.

Good luck!

I agree with King Richard, it sounds like some kind of ritual to me. Teens don't just eat cockroaches for fun. Since you mentioned the kind of music he's listening to, I'm assuming you noticed a change in him from it. First of all, talk to him. He's your son, you should be able to communicate with him. If you can't get through to him or he won't tell you anything, seek professional help.
